written and directed by Ted Dossett of the North Carolina Wildlife
Resources Commission in 1995. It is a teacher’s video guide to the

Carolina, February 3, 1995. Mrs. Chestnut’s family helped create
the first oceanfront development in North Carolina for ownership

features Milton Resnick, one of the last survivors from the New

V.T.113 The videotape, titled “Target Satisfaction,” was transferred from
motion picture film by the above television station. The video
records the step-by-step process of the manufacture of tobacco into
cigarettes. 30 minutes.
V.T.114 “Research Triangle Program Luncheon, 1959.” The videotape
features a luncheon held on January 9, 1959 at the Sir Walter Hotel
in Raleigh. The topic of the gathering is the completion of the initial
plan of the development of Research Triangle Park. VHS, 53
minutes.
V.T.115 “Movies of Local People.” Cliffside, North Carolina, 1937. The
tape contains views of people in the town of Cliffside, Rutherford
County, North Carolina. VHS, 15 minutes.
V.T.116 “Movies of Local People.” Cliffside, North Carolina, 1937. The
tape contains views of people on Main Street and workers leaving
the Cliffside Mills. VHS, 16 minutes.
V.T.117 “North Carolina, Variety Vacationland.” The tape is a production of
the North Carolina Department of Conservation and Development
in 1940 and examines the state with an emphasis on its history,
people, recreational activities, and tourist attractions. Betacam SP,
40 minutes.
V.T.118 “Archives Look to the Future: Planning and Issues For the 21st
Century.” The tape contains a teleconference broadcast over the
public affairs cablevision network on October 27, 1999. It features
presentations by the state archivist of Delaware Howard Lowell,
director of Archives and History Jeffrey Crow, Dean Ben Speller of
North Carolina Central University, Micelle Francis of the
Presbyterian Archives in Montreat, and state archivist David J.
Olson. VHS, 2 hours.
V.T.119 “The Story of Rasmus Midgett: Lifesaver.” The tape recounts the
dramatic rescues on the North Carolina Outer Banks during the
August 1899 Hurricane San Ciriaco. VHS, 42 minutes.
V.T.120 “Daylight Entered Buncombe County: The Railroad Entering the
Mountains of Western North Carolina.” 2000. The videotape
documents the construction of the nearly ten miles of track
ascending three to four miles of the Old Fort Pass on the Western
North Carolina Railroad in the late 1870s and early 1880s. VHS, 20
minutes.
V.T.121 “Camp Durant, Your Gateway to Adventure.” Produced by the
Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts of America, about 1960.
The video features boy scouts at an outing at Camp Durant I
northern Wake County, North Carolina. VHS, 17 minutes, 41
seconds.
V.T.122 “North Carolina Governors and the Legacy of Governor James B.
Hunt.” It contains an interview with Dr. Jeffrey Crow aired by
UNC-TV on “North Carolina Now,” January 5, 2001. VHS, 6

V.T.123 The videotape is untitled, VHS, 15 minutes. The footage shows the
events surrounding the Dare County Celebration of 1934.
V.T.124 “The Lost Colony.” Filmed on Roanoke Island in 1921, the footage
tells the tale of England’s unsuccessful attempts to settle Roanoke
Island between 1584 and 1587. VHS, 41 minutes.
V.T.125 “Pistol Pete: The Life and Times of Pete Maravich.” Aired on CBS,
March 2001. The documentary contains the story of the life of Pete
Maravich (1947 – 1987), one of North Carolina’s greatest
basketball players. VHS, 1 hour 8 minutes.
V.T.126 “An Interview With Tiny Broadwick.” The interview was
conducted by news reporter Ben Runkle from Mrs. Broadwick’s
home in Henderson, North Carolina in 1963. VHS, 8 minutes.
V.T.127 This videotape is a copy of motion picture films taken by Lexington
photographer H. Lee Waters of Wilkes County, North Carolina
between 1939 and 1941. Much of the footage is Main Street and
downtown businesses. VHS, 57 minutes.
V.T.128 “This is Progressive Wilkes County, 1948.” The promotional film
takes a positive look at the Wilkes County area with an emphasis on
its businesses, schools, churches, and cultural civic advantages.

V.T.129 “Corapeake.” A documentary videotape containing quality black
and white photographs and moving images of the older African-
American citizens of this town in north Gates County, North
Carolina. VHS, 56 minutes.
V.T.130 “War Zone: World War II Off North Carolina’s Outer Banks.” Two
tapes, each 90 minutes in length. Part I is titled “I’ll Never Smile
Again,” and Part II is titled “Let’s Face the Music and Dance.”
V.T.131 “North Carolina’s Indian Heritage: The Tuscaroras.” The video
focuses on the Tuscaroras from eastern North Carolina, specifically
two archaeological sites – Jordan’s Landing and Neoheroka. VHS,
23 minutes.
V.T.132 “Talk About Writing: Jonathan Williams.” The tape contains an
interview with North Carolina poet Jonathan Williams. Jonathan
Williams, from his home on Skywinding Farm in Highlands, North
Carolina, reflects on what poetry is and what his work means to
him. VHS, 18 minutes.
V.T.133 “Durham, A Self Portrait.” The piece begins with the 1865
surrender at the Bennett Place and moves quickly into twentieth
century with a discussion of the recent history of Durham. VHS, 5
minutes.
V.T.134 “Down Home: The History of Jews in North Carolina.” The short
presentation begins with a mention of Joachim Gans, a Jewish man,
who accompanied the Sir Walter Raleigh colonist to Roanoke
Island on the second voyage. The tape contains an overview of the

social history of Jews in North and includes brief interviews with
Lena Goldman and Frank Miller. VHS, 10 minutes.
V.T.135 “Blackbeard’s Treasure.” The tape is an episode of the show IQ
from UNC-TV, no date. Maria Lundberg hosts the program, and
Bill Lovin travels into the field to gain access to the underwater
archaeological work off the coast of North Carolina on what could
be the remains of Blackbeard’s flagship, the Queen Anne’s
Revenge. VHS, 55 minutes.
V.T.136 “The Money Story.” The educational videotape is divided into two
parts – the history of money and the production of money. It
chronicles the progression from the early barter system, to the first
coins, and then to the paper currency used today. VHS, 33 minutes.
V.T.137 “Iowa: An American Portrait.” The videotape chronicles the history
of the state of Iowa from its early Native American inhabitants and
Scandinavian settlers, to the present day. VHS, 1996, 1 hour.
V.T.138 “Lunch Counter Blues: Reflections of the Lives of the Greensboro
Four.” The short video chronicles the events and lives of the
“Greensboro Four,” and the sit-in they began at the Woolworth’s in
Greensboro on February 1, 1960. VHS, 5 minutes.
V.T.139 “The Beaufort Inlet Shipwreck Project.” The short piece discusses
the wreckage discovered in November, 1996, which is thought to be
Blackbeard’s flagship, the “Queen Anne’s Revenge.” VHS, 5
minutes.
