Preparation for Entrance Interview
At The United Theological College (UTC) we are wanting to ensure that students applying to the College
have an understanding of our approach to theological education and how we work and live together as a
community of faith. We are also interested in getting to know applicants and have some experience of
how they learn and the strengths and gifts that they would bring to this community. To this end, we ask
applicants to prepare some brief written pieces for us and then to meet with two members of Faculty, a
member of the College‟s Board of Governors and a representative from our ecumenical consortium for a
conversation about study at UTC. This entrance interview is normally conducted in person, though
applicants living at considerable distance may be interviewed by phone. Normally interviews occur after a
completed application has been submitted to the College with a parallel application having been submitted
to McGill University. Following the interview, the College represents the applicant at the Admissions
Committee of McGill‟s Faculty of Religious Studies.

Your written responses to the following questions will form a part of your file to be reviewed for your UTC
entrance interview. Your responses are considered confidential and viewed only by the Entrance
Committee. They will not be shared with individuals or committees at McGill.

    1. An autobiographical statement (maximum 1250 words).

    2. A reflection on your understanding of ministry and vision of what ministry might look like for you in
the future. What do you understand to be the gifts and liabilities that you would bring to this
       ministry? (maximum 1000 words)

    3. A reflection on your experience of diversity in the Church. How have you been challenged
personally by the opportunities for, and realities of, diversity, in your context? (maximum 1000
       words)

Please forward this information to the College with the rest of your material.
