             Northern Parishes Link Committee Meeting - September 2006

Neighbourhood Information

Between April 2006 and August 2006 crime in the North Link Area increased by
7.1% from 294 to 315 offences, when compared with the previous year.

The information below highlights the key points to note from the statistics for each
Police Neighbourhood in the North Link Area.

Okehampton

April 2006 to August 2006 -

Total crime increased from 213 to 218 offences (2.3%)
Violent crime increased from 57 to 59 offences (3.5%)
Theft from vehicle increased from 10 to 19 offences (90.0%)
Criminal damage increased from 57 to 63 offences (10.5%)
Domestic burglary decreased from 5 to 4 offences (-20.0%)

Hatherleigh (Hatherleigh, Highampton, Meeth, Iddesleigh, Monkokehampton,
Broadwoodkelly)

April 2006 to August 2006 -

Total crime increased from 25 to 32 offences (28.0%)
Violent crime increased from 5 to 11 offences (120.0%)
Other theft increased from 4 to 8 offences (100.0%)
Criminal damage decreased from 7 to 5 offences (-28.6%)


Okehampton Rural West (Northlew, Inwardleigh, Okehampton                    Hamlets,
Bridestowe, Sourton, Beaworthy, Germansweek, Bratton Clovelly)

April 2006 to August 2006 -

Total crime increased from 56 to 65 offences (16.1%)
Violent crime decreased from 14 to 10 offences (-28.6%)
Theft from vehicle increased from 3 to 13 offences (333.3%)

Exbourne and Jacobstowe –

April 2006 to August 2006 -

Total crime increased from 3 to 6 offences (100.0%)

Parish Information

Listed below is some information regarding a number of crimes that have occurred in
individual parishes over the past three months. Not all parishes are listed, as often

there is very little to highlight. Also, to ensure that for crimes where the complainant
does not wish to be identified, in many circumstances only a little or no information
can be provided.

Beaworthy – In the middle of July a car stereo and CDs were stolen from a car.

Bridestowe – At the end of August a car parked in Bridestowe was broken into. No
property was stolen.

Exbourne & Jacobstowe – In Exbourne there were two vehicle crimes in August. A
car stereo and a CD were stolen from a vehicle and there was an attempt to break
into another vehicle. Also in August there was a theft from a property in Exbourne,
the property stolen included some roofing materials.

Hatherleigh – In August, windows were smashed in two properties in Market Street
and there was a burglary at a non-residential property. Approximately £600 worth of
property was stolen. Between August and September a shed was burgled and two
lawn mowers and a power washer were stolen There were three vehicle crimes in
Hatherleigh overnight between the 8th and 9th of September, with satellite navigation
equipment being stolen from one of the vehicles.

Inwardleigh – In the middle of August a car stereo and a mini disc player were
stolen from a vehicle parked in Folly Gate, and in September an animal trailer was
stolen from the Inwardleigh area.

Northlew – In the middle of July the exhaust pipes were stolen from two tractors.
On a number of occasions in July and August, fencing at the playing field was
damaged and used to make a bikers ramp. At the beginning of September a shed
was broken into and a number of power tools were stolen.

Okehampton – Crimes that have occurred in the past few months include - There
have been a number of burglaries from non residential premises, the property taken
includes, money stolen from an insecure office premises, bottles of spirits and
approximately £8500 worth of tools. There were three burglaries from dwellings
during August, the property stolen included jewellery, laptop computers and power
tools. In July a male was charged with two offences of exposure that both occurred
in West Street. At the beginning of August, two bicycles that had been left insecure
outside business premises were stolen.

Okehampton Hamlets – At the beginning of July a wallet was stolen from an
unlocked vehicle that was parked at Meldon Reservoir. Also in July a business
premises was burgled and approximately £2500 worth of property was stolen,
consisting mainly of computer equipment. In August, 6 fence posts were stolen from
a fence in Meldon.
