David Andrews OBE is a leading national consultant and trainer specialising in careers education and
guidance. Formerly a school careers co-ordinator and a local authority adviser, David has been working
freelance for the past 12 years. He leads courses for careers co-ordinators and personal advisers, provides
consultancy to senior leaders in schools, local authorities, Connexions and careers companies and has
spoken at numerous conferences. He also writes guidance materials and articles on careers education and
IAG and undertakes research studies. David is a Fellow of the National Institute for Careers Education
and Counselling (NICEC), an affiliated lecturer at the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education and
an honorary life member of the Association for Careers Education and Guidance (ACEG). He has
provided advice to the UK Government and other national bodies, including:
adviser to DfES (1999-2004) and co-author of the National Framework for CEG 11-19 (2003)
adviser to DCSF and lead writer of the Quality Standards for Young People’s IAG (2007)
lead associate for IAG at the SSAT (2008-10).
The Education Bill proposes a new duty on schools in England to secure independent careers
guidance for pupils, provided by persons other than those employed at the school; it also removes
the requirement to teach careers education. The Bill is likely to be given Royal Assent in the
autumn and the new statutory duties will come into effect from September 2012.
Overleaf you will find details of a series of one-day courses David will lead to help schools prepare for
these changes.
Please note that these courses are repeats of the six similar courses attended by over 100 people in May
and June 2011
