The 4th Biennial Tanzer Symposium once again promises to be a wonderful
educational and social event. The theme for Tanzer 2011 - “Influencing the
Value Equation in Plastic Surgery” - reflects the core focus of the renowned
Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, and is
particularly germane during this era of health reform debate.
The question being put to our faculty in 2011 is:

How has your practice evolved over time in terms of the equation:
                   Value = Quality (or benefit)/Cost?

A diverse array of scheduled presentations will examine the emerging field
of health care delivery science, discuss the balance between academia and
entrepreneurship, compare health care systems by considering matched
series of patients undergoing care in the US and Canada, consider the
use of decision analysis in resource allocation, and focus specifically on
developments in the processes of care for breast and general reconstruction,
microtia, craniosynostosis, and rhinoplasty. Ample time will also be
available for those who would like to take the podium and share interesting
cases or novel practice experiences with the audience.

So make your plans soon to join us for an important and intimate plastic
surgical symposium, rekindle friendships with old Dartmouth colleagues,
and indulge in the incomparable beauty of autumn foliage in the Upper
Valley region.
The symposium is sponsored by the Radford C. and Sheila H. Tanzer
Endowment Fund which supports education in plastic surgery, while
emphasizing qualities of integrity, humility, and passion in the pursuit of
excellence in the specialty.

We look forward to having you join us!

Mitchell Stotland, MD
