18th February 2011

Dear Parents

Thank you to all those who visited the school on Up-Helly-Aa. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Cookery Club for this session has now finished. Many thanks to Lesley for helping the bairns learn how to cook
some very tasty dishes. I hope they shared them with you as well!

An animation after school club will start on Monday, 21st February, when we will be focusing on editing skills. This
was initially open to P3 – P7 as they had already made several animations. However, if any of the P1s would like to
join us they would be very welcome. Just complete the attached consent form.

We have been informed that Little Tikes at Tingwall will be having their official opening tomorrow, Saturday, between
2 and 5 p.m. for those of you who might wish to attend.

Could I remind you that the school is not officially open until 8.45 a.m. There are times when our regular teachers
are away on courses or attending meetings first thing in the morning and supply teachers are often not able to get
here any earlier. Julia has other duties to attend to before 8.45 and is not able to supervise children until then.

Can I also remind you of the following dates:

School will be closed to pupils next Friday, 25th February, for teachers’ In-Service Training and the following Monday
and Tuesday are occasional holidays. We will reopen on Wednesday, 2nd March. Please bring lunch money for next
week on Thursday.

On Thursday, 3rd March, it is World Book Day. We are hoping to have a visiting local author to read to the bairns in
Shetland dialect as well as other book related activities. Pupils are invited to dress up as a book character again for
the day as they have all enjoyed this in the past. All the pupils will receive a book token for £1 which they can use at
any bookshop. Please note they are only valid from 28th February to 27th March 2011.

Thursday, 10th March, P5-7 will be exploring the Catfirth Burn as part of the John Muir Award Scheme.

Friday, 11th March and Friday, 18th March – Move It Eat Smart will be taking place in the afternoon with P1-3 (P4s
will join the P5-7 class for the afternoon).

Monday, 14th March – P1-7 dental check-ups in school.

Tuesday, 15th March P4-7 will take part in the Rugby Festival at Clickimin.

Monday, 21st March – P5-7 will visit the Museum for a workshop on the Lewis Chessmen followed by lunch at an
Indian restaurant (this is part of their topic on India).

Thank you.

Yours sincerely
