                                                Efficiency Ideas

Task Group 1 - Campuswide and Student Activities To Reduce Energy Use



Turn off lights, equipment and appliances when not in use.
Unplug electronic equipment each night when not in use. E.g. sensors in common areas; add sensors elsewhere;
turn off printers; incadescent bulbs w LEDs; chargers
Organize energy saving competition on campus and residential halls.
Paperless conference
Teach, train, do: Students get involved with "training" on energy savings
Educate users about lighting, equipment and heating/cooling costs.
Educate stakeholders about cost of transportation when commuting, taking short area trips, and operations on
campus.
Close classroom doors when HVAC is operating.
Encourage people to not use the handicap / automatic door buttons if they do not need to.


Task Group 2 - Office Activities

Program all computers to energy saver mode.
Eliminate fax cover sheets.
Recycling: paper, cardboard, batteries, toner and ink cartridges; students
“Encouraging” electronic communications, file sharing, etc., instead of paper copies
Reduce/eliminate posters around campus generated by campus sources…use our technology instead
Is there a way to verify FAX receipts without printing of an whole page?
Do more forms online………..procard statements, MERFS, etc. use lots of paper
Replace some traditional mailings with electronic mailings
Refill/recharge all sizes of printer cartridges.
Greater use of "all in one" category of office equipment and subsequent replacement of single use equipment.
Provide filtered water to each building with a fun UCO refillable water bottle


Task Group 3 - Community Service

Work with Chartwells to donate leftover foods (they do this w/ Food Bank)


Task Group 4 - Electronic, Copiers, Printing
Reduce printing by keeping data in electronic form, making double-sided copies and reusing printed pages for
note paper. Use 1/4 or 1/2 sheets for handouts.
Reduce number of computers turned on in computer labs during periods of least use.
Encourage "bring lunch to work" or "eat on campus" days to minimize off campus driving at lunch.
More efficient utilization of property and equipment before it is transferred to surplus.
Encourage employee carpooling in addition to student ride share program.
Incent Common residents to be more conscientious with energy usage.
Consolidate freezer use in food services during Summer and Intersession.


Task Group 5 - Travel and Video/ Audio Use

Reduce travel and travel costs, consider electronic means for meetings
CPDE promote online classes to prospective students (in addition to corporations) even more., especially for
veterans.


Task Group 6 - Mass Transit Considerations
Study mass transit cost/benefits and consider elimination of Broncho Bus under current plan




Task Group 7 - Classroom and Building Utilization Efficiencies
Use alternate scheduling for office and classroom times. Minimize use of particular building during Summer and
Intersession. Computer labs; remote accessibility.


Technical Group - Automation

Automatic light shut off and power-saving bulbs
Expand use of occupancy sensors on lighting.
