Are Natural Skin Care Products Safe to Use When Pregnant
Women trying to conceive or women that is already pregnant knows that there are
many limitations when it comes to medications, foods and skin care treatments. In
the case of acne and pregnancy, women are concerned about what skin care
ingredients they should avoid when pregnant or nursing. Pregnancy is a temporary
situation but also an important event and no risks should be taken during this period.
Medications, skin care products and procedures should be strictly monitored under a
professional only. However, with regards to skin care products studies are
incomplete with regards to evaluating the safety of active ingredients, which makes
it difficult to specify what is safe and what is not safe.
Due to pregnancy being temporary the safest solution is best to avoid most skin care
products, however, non prescription products approved by dermatologists are said to
be safe to use as well as natural skin care products which contain no harmful
chemicals. One of the most common ailments in pregnant women is acne and the
only safe skin care products to use are AHA and glycolic acid peels and products.
These products are made up of natural ingredients such as sugar cane. One can also
make use of skin care products that are organic and do not contain any preservatives
or harsh chemicals. Besides skin care products there are also medications that
should not be used such as Doxycycline, Minocycline, Aldactone, Tetracycline,
Accutane and Tazorotone, which are used in the treatment of acne. No laser or
cosmetic procedures should be carried out that include Dysport, Botox or fillers. In
other words to not take any unnecessary risks. There is also acne topical medications
that should be avoided when pregnant which include Clindamycin, Cleocin, Azelaic
Acid and skin peels that contain Alpha Hydroxy Acid. Bear in mind that no matter
what type of skin care products or ointments you use on your skin, it will be
absorbed through the skin. Before using any skin care products even if they are
natural or organic, first check with your doctor if they are safe to use, as there are
natural ingredients that can produce side effects in pregnant women.
However, there are several skin care products that are safe to use and that prevent
stretch marks on the market that have been specially devised for pregnant women.
There is also a skin care treatment known as ALA/PDT which is relatively new which
can be used by pregnant women that have acne. This treatment is natural and
completely safe for both pregnant and nursing mothers. The treatment is called Blue
Light treatment or Blu U acne treatment.
