FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Start a New Year Revolution
4 in 10 UK adults (39%) do not recycle their old mobile phones or their empty
computer printer cartridges, two simple actions that could raise money for
charity if they were recycled. A recent YouGov survey into recycling habits
indicated that millions of empty printer cartridges and old mobile phones are
still likely to be tossed into the bin when empty.
Tommy's, the baby charity are urging individuals and companies to start a
New Year Recycling Revolution to reduce this waste. Many of these empty
cartridges and unused mobiles can be recycled to help fund Tommy’s vital
research into why one in four women will lose a baby every year. Joining the
revolution is such an easy thing to do and you can raise cash for charity
without having to dip into your pockets, perfect in the current climate.
Each One Counts estimates that improved recycling of mobiles and empty
cartridges by the UK public could potentially raise a massive £110 million extra
Recycling also helps the environment twice over. It reduces pressure on landfill
sites and it conserves scarce raw materials. Meeting the demand for new ink
cartridges places an unnecessary strain on depleting natural resources, as
good proportion can be refilled and reused.
So, instead of risking breaking impossible New Year Resolution targets, a much
simpler and greener answer is to join the Recycling Revolution and help
Tommy’s give babies the best chance of being born healthy. When your ink
cartridge next runs out, resolve to go to
www.eachonecounts.co.uk/tommys and check if it can be reused, and
recycle it instead of bunging it in the bin. That's a resolution you can stick to
all year long!
Emma Corry from Each One Counts commented:
“It’s fantastic that so many people recycle already to help Tommy’s. However,
with so many cartridges still being thrown away, a lot more can be done, and
it costs nothing. Just check online if they are suitable, ask for an Each One
Counts freepost recycling bag from the website and send them off to us.
Recycling with Each One Counts can help give women the best chance to have
a healthy pregnancy and birth, and it’s a really easy way to help a charity.”
So far a fantastic £540,000 has been raised for Tommy’s by recycling. But
with one in four women losing a child there is still a great deal of work to be
done. Tommy’s target is to halve the number of babies lost during pregnancy
or birth by 2030. For more information and to start recycling visit

Tommy's exists to save babies lives because right now in the UK 1 in 4 women loses a baby during
pregnancy or birth. We fund research into and provide information on the causes and prevention of
miscarriage, premature birth and stillbirth. By 2030 we want to halve the number of babies who die during
pregnancy or birth.
