FORUM Receives First Place and Honorable Mention
Indianapolis, Indiana, October 28, 2010 – In September, the Indiana Credit Union League (ICUL)
hosted a banquet and presented plaques to statewide winners of the Credit Union National
Association’s (CUNA) national awards competitions. FORUM Credit Union received First Place for
the Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action – an award given to a credit union who best
exemplifies commitment to the “people-helping-people” philosophy. FORUM also received
Honorable Mention for the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award, which is given in
recognition of outstanding achievement in a social responsibility program.
FORUM’s 2009 SaveItUp Challenge program was used for the Louise Herring entry. This program
was designed to encourage people to save money, change their spending habits, and become better
money managers. The SaveItUp Program challenged participants to complete items within 5
different categories including budget, thrift, savvy, goals, and education. An example under the
“budget” category was to “create a realistic budget to help identify areas where you need to make a
change.” By completing items like this, participants were entered to win up to $5,000.
FORUM’s Dora Maxwell Award entry involved a project with Dayspring, a local homeless shelter. As
part of an ongoing initiative to benefit Dayspring, FORUM employees focused their 2009 fundraising
efforts on buying a 15 passenger van for the center. Funds were raised among FORUM employees
through various activities including $5 jeans days, penny wars, bake sales, cookouts, and more. In
December 2009, FORUM met its goal and presented a $20,000 van to the Dayspring staff and board
in conjunction with FORUM’s employee holiday luncheon. Employees filled the van with pillows,
food items, toiletries, and clothing. Twelve $100 gasoline gift cards were also presented to the
shelter – a gift card for each month of 2010.
“I am very proud of the individuals who were responsible for these two very important initiatives.
The effort and dedication that was required to make these programs so successful and meaningful is
to be commended. These projects truly made a difference in the lives of the people involved,” says
Gary Irvin, President and CEO of FORUM Credit Union.
FORUM’s Louise Herring entry is being forwarded on to CUNA’s national competition.
