THE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL IN PILSEN- BASIC DATA
The University Hospital in Pilsen is an independent
allowance organization under the direct management of
the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. Its main
mission is:

       rendering of basic, specialised and highly
        specialised diagnostic and medical care - in-
        patient as well as out-patient treatment
       pre-graduate and postgraduate teaching
        (medicine doctors - Charles University Faculty of
        Medicine in Pilsen, medical personnel - graduated
        from universities, high schools, higher vocational
        schools, etc.)
       basic and clinical research


 Medical care rendering
 The University Hospital in Pilsen ensures the basic medical care for the area of Pilsen Region (catchments
area about 550 000 inhabitants) and specialised as well as so-called super-specialised medical care in all
branches of health care (with the exception of burn medicine, bone marrow transplantations for children, the
most complicated organ transplantations and heart operations of children) for the Pilsen Region and Karlovy
Vary Region (catchments area about 850 000 inhabitants).
The hospital also secures the health care for the inhabitants of the neighbouring regions, especially in the area of
South and North Bohemia and part of Central Bohemia. The significance of the University Hospital in Pilsen
covers the whole Czech Republic in the branches like assisted reproduction, bone marrow transplantations, liver,
prostate gland or kidney tumours operations. The following accredited special centres have been established
within the University Hospital in Pilsen, in which the complex health care and treatment of the patients with the
selected types of diagnosis are concentrated:

Thanks to the long-term economic stability, the hospital invests into its development through purchasing of
the best medical instrumentation in order to ensure the best possible medical care especially for the
inhabitants of the Pilsen Region. The University Hospital in Pilsen has for example the best quality
diagnostics by means of computerised tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR) and it also offers an
examination carried out by PET / CT. This method is capable to reveal the tumorous disease in the stage of
its development at the moment, when the patient does not feel any problems related to the disease. The
method is used for the selection of optimal way of the treatment of the newly discovered tumorous diseases
of blood formation, lung tumours as well as for the evaluation of residual disease after the operation of more
developed tumours of large intestine and breast.


THE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL IN PILSEN CONSISTS OF THREE INDEPENDENT PREMISES:


    The University Hospital in Pilsen - Bory

     - the original hospital premises of pavilion type
     - rendering of basic surgery and internal health care as well
        as some types of specialised
       medical care (departments of infectious diseases, lung and
        skin diseases, otorhinolaryngology,
       urology, etc.)


    The University Hospital in Pilsen - Lochotin

     - modern premises in a distance about 7 km from the University
         Hospital in Pilsen - Bory
     - rendering of specialised and highly specialised medical care
         (Traumatological centre,
       Cardiological centre, Centre for bone marrow transplantations,
         Transplantation organ centre,
       etc.)
     - the construction of the new seat of the Gynaecological and maternity clinic and
          Neonathological department was started at the year 2005 at the premises. The construction will
          be finished in September 2007.



        Fodermayer Pavilion

          -independent pavilion separated from both previous big premises
         that is used as a seat of
           Radio-therapeutic and Oncological departments.

ADMITTING INTO HOSPITAL:

Please, take the following items to the hospital with you:
    Identity card
    Document about the health insurance
    Name and address of your physician
    Document on disablement (if such a document has been issued
     for you)
    Recommendation of your physician for your hospitalization,
     medical reports and results of medical examinations
    Personal requisites and toiletries, slippers, pyjama, night robe,
     pharmaceuticals (that you use for a long time).


ABOVE-STANDARD ROOMS:

It is possible to request for the accommodation in the above-standard room in the University Hospital in
Pilsen. As the above-standard services we understand accommodation in the room of hotel type with
telephone , TV set and refrigerator. In the case of the accommodation in such a room, the patients must
contribute financially for their stay in the hospital. The medical care is the same for all patients. We perceive
the building of the above standard rooms as one type of service for our patients for the improvement of their
comfort during the residential treatment.


VISITING HOURS FOR PUBLIC

working days                       3.00 - 5.00 p.m.
Saturdays + Sundays, holiday       2.00 - 4.00 p.m.

In addition to the above-mentioned terms also different visiting hours
can be arranged with the attending physician / nurse in service and
depending on the seriousness of the patient health condition. Visits to
the Clinic of Infectious Diseases, Anesthesiological and Resuscitation
Clinic and at the intensive care units, Paediatric Clinic and to the
paediatric stations of other clinics and departments are allowed
(because of the character of these operations) only in case that the
assigned protective aids are used in accordance with the instructions
of the medical personnel of the hospital. The visits can be banned temporarily by the Director of the hospital
because of hygienic and epidemiologic reasons. If child is admitted into the hospital, it is possible to arrange
with the hospital personnel also the hospitalisation of parent at some selected departments.

The University Hospital in Pilsen is able to provide its patients with complex health care on the world level
thanks to its up-to-date diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation background. The hospital is equipped by the
state-of-the-art technique and number of knowledgeable experts from the individual medical branches work
for the hospital. You can usually communicate with our personnel in English or Russian language without
any problems. We can also arrange an interpreter in case of necessity.

    -     Corrective dermatology – treatment for vascular changes on skin by high-frequency laser, wrinkle
          and pigmentation removal, etc., treatment for keloid scars, treatment for acne.
    -     Treatment for lymphedema

       Radiodiagnostics and nuclear medicine

    -     The state-of-the-art apparatuses and methods – sixty-four line
          multi-detector computing tomograph SENSATION 64,
          magnetic resonance apparatus AVANTO and hybrid sixteen-
          line system PET/CT BIOGRAPH 16 – unique possibility of
          selection among the most progressive and up-to-date ways of
          display gives the clinic specialists an advantage to use the
          optimum examination method for each patient.
    -     PET/CT method utilizes the combination of radio-pharmaceuticals and display by means of
          computing tomography. This state-of-the art technology of tumorous disease display is used for the
          selection of optimum way of treatment in case of the newly discovered tumorous diseases of
          haematopoiesis and lung tumours, as well as for the evaluation of the residual diseases after the
          operations of more progressive tumours of breast and large intestine. The results of the
          examinations are used also for the localization of the tumorous disease, for the differentiation
          between the more advanced disease stages and less advanced disease stages and for the
          evaluation of the treatment effect of the patients with oncological diseases.


       Laboratory diagnostics

    -     Wide spectrum of laboratory examinations in the following branches: clinic biochemistry and
          haematology, microbiology, medical genetics, immunology and allergology, pathology.
