                      New Student Enrollment Report
The 2010 Summer NSE program ran from June 7, 2010 through July 9, 2010 and successfully enrolled
1,152 students majoring in Arts & Sciences (compared to 983 in 2009-2010 and 973 in 2008-2009).

To achieve this goal, the Arts & Sciences Advising Center staff advised alongside departmental
advisers from Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Computer Science, English and Film Studies,
Environmental Studies, History, International Studies, Political Sciences, and Psychology. Advising
hours during NSE ran from 10:10am to 12:45pm for students advised in the morning session, and 1:30
to 3:00pm for students advised in the afternoon session. Departmental advisers helped students set up
their fall schedule, discussed faculty achievements, future research opportunities, and departmental
highlights.

Each day the Advising Center staff presented a college-focused presentation to all new students in
attendance. This year the College presentation explained the ACE (Achievement-Centered Education)
general education program, described how advising works in the college and provided suggestions on
how students can achieve academic success at UNL. In addition, several slides were spent on themes
related to time management, study expectations, email etiquette, connecting with faculty/staff at UNL,
and tips on student involvement on campus.

Late New Student Enrollment was August 11 th and 13 th , 2010. During this period, the Advising Center
staff advised 93 students (compared to 76 last year).

Throughout the summer the Arts & Sciences Advising Center did 65 mail -in registrations during NSE
for students unable to come to campus. This summer, for the first time, Arts & Sciences offered a
college presentation on August 19 th for all students that completed a mail-in option during New
Student Enrollment. The presentation was attended by 29 students and covered many of the topics
covered during the Summer NSE presentation such as: how advising works in the college and
suggestions on how students can achieve academic success at UNL.

In addition to Summer NSE and Late NSE, three Transfer NSE days were held on March 26, April 16,
and May 20. During Transfer NSE the Arts & Sciences Advising Center met with 9 8 transfer students.

The data below represents Arts & Sciences New Student Enrollment attendance and major totals for
Transfer, Summer, and Late NSE. Overall, the Arts & Sciences Advising Center saw 1, 343 total
students in 2010.
