									              2008-2009 SOUTH HANOVER PTO COMMITTEES

ASSEMBLIES
Special programs are scheduled throughout the school year for all students. In the past
storytellers, theater groups, science and art programs have been scheduled. Volunteers
are needed to help organize these programs.
BOOK FAIR
Volunteers are needed to help students choose and purchase books at the book fair.
BOX TOPS
Box tops for General Mills products are collected and exchanged for cash. This money is
used for various school supplies. Volunteers are needed to help collect them from the
classes, to calculate and mail in.
CARTRIDGES FOR KIDS
Used ink cartridges and cell phones are collected and exchanged for cash. A volunteer is
needed to periodically collect these from the office and package them for pick-up.
CURRICULUM GRANTS
Teachers are given the opportunity to obtain funds that will enhance their classroom
curriculum. Previous grants have included field trips, guest lecturers and educational
supplies. The PTO Executive Team reviews all curriculum grants.
DONUNTS WITH DAD
Moms are needed to help set up and serve at this morning event.
FAMILY FUN NIGHT
An evening of fun is planned for all families of South Hanover Elementary. In the past
we have had a western theme night, beanie baby bingo night and a craft/pot luck night.
Volunteers are needed to prepare and help the night of the event.
FIELD DAY
A day of games is organized for all of the students near the end of the school year.
Volunteers are needed to prepare and help the day of the event.
FIFTH GRADE PROMOTION
Volunteers are needed to work with the teachers and principal to plan the promotion of
the 5th grade class. Preparations will also need to be made for a ceremony with light
refreshments after the graduation.
GOODIES WITH GRANDPARENTS
Parents are needed to help set up and serve at this morning event.
KARN’S RECEIPTS
Receipts are collected throughout the year from Fox’s Market grocery store. These are
then tabulated and turned into Fox’s for cash back for the school.
FRIDAY ICE CREAM
Volunteers are needed to sell ice cream to the students at lunchtime once a week
throughout the school year.
GIANT GIFT CARD PROGRAM
Volunteers are needed to help fill Giant Gift Card orders once a month.
HOLIDAY SHOPPE
Students are given the opportunity to purchase inexpensive gifts for their families
during the holiday season. Volunteers are needed to make/donate crafts, set up and to
help students with their selections.
HOSPITALITY
This committee is responsible for providing 2-3 luncheons per school year for the South
Hanover Staff. Volunteers are needed to make or donate a variety of food and desserts
for each of these luncheons.
KINDERGARTEN GIFTS
This committee chairperson selects and presents each child entering kindergarten with a
small gift to welcome them on behalf of the PTO. This event takes place at the
kindergarten tea every August.
LANGUAGE CLUB
Language instruction in Spanish, French and German are offered to the students after
school. Volunteers are needed to help maintain the various functions of this club.
LITERARY MAGAZINE “WRITE ON”
Volunteers work with the faculty to select, layout and type literary works of the students
to publish twice a year for all students and parents to enjoy.
MOVIE NIGHT
Volunteers are needed to help organize this event and/or help out the night of.
MUFFINS WITH MOM
Dads are needed to help set up and serve at this morning event.
PARENT AIDES
Aides assist the teachers every Tuesday with clerical responsibilities such as copying and
filing.
PLAYGROUND
Equipment is purchased and maintained as necessary to assure a safe play environment.
PUBLICITY
Pictures of students are taken and articles written for submission to local newspapers.
This committee also arranges the end of the year slide show that everyone enjoys.
PUBLISHING CENTER
Students have the opportunity to publish their own books. The center is open daily
during school hours. Volunteers are needed to type, interview the “authors”, and
assemble the books.
ROOM PARENTS
Volunteers are needed to work with the teachers and a list of parent volunteers for each
classroom. Some room parent duties include party organization, phone calls, organizing
class volunteers for the fall fundraiser and spring carnival.
FALL FESTIVAL
Every fall a carnival is planned at our school. It includes games, celebrity guests, food
sales and more. This program requires many volunteers to prepare and sell food, to
organize games and to supervise prize redemption centers. Future continuation of the
program depends on volunteer participation.
STUDENT DIRECTORY
Volunteers are needed to organize, type and distribute the South Hanover school
directory. Information begins to be collected at the end of the school year and the
directory is distributed at the beginning of the school year
