The Dad’s Truck & Auto Late Model racing program launched
with qualifications. 2009 track champion Mark Tunny rang-up fast
time with a lap of 13.286 seconds. 2006 class king Doug Greig won
the trophy dash while 2003 World Figure 8® Champion Bill Tunny Jr
and veteran “Bulldog” Bobby Whitaker won the preliminary heats. In
the 25-lap oval feature, it was Manny Aguilar going flag-to-flag for
his second career division victory and first since July of 2000. His win
was also significant as it was the 20th different winner in 20 races
making it the first-time in division history that there were no repeat
oval winners in a single season. Austin Tunny was the main event
runner-up over his dad Bill Tunny Jr.
The next point gathering race in the $10,000-to-win Dad’s

was the 35th Annual One Hour Figure 8 Endurance Race. Time trials
started the evening with important grid positions and vitally needed
qualifying bonus points for the fastest four. 2009 World Figure 8®
Champion Ben Tunny won the pole with a lap of 18.030 seconds. He
did it by the slightest of margins eclipsing his younger brother Austin

pace lap when a freakish front suspension failure sent Casey White
to the pits. The green flag waved and the clock started its 60-minute
countdown with Ben taking the lead with Austin settling into second.

top drivers from the state of Washington. That group included Brian
and Nick Gunderson who raced the previous evening at their Ever-

race to join their Late Model cars in Indianapolis. Brian had won that
NASCAR sanctioned Figure 8.
