Dropout Prevention & Recovery Work Group The Department created the Dropout Prevention and Recovery Work Group several years ago, originally to support urban districts in their dropout reduction efforts. Under MassGrad, all districts eligible for MassGrad opportunities are welcome to participate and the Department is also increasing the number of opportunities available. The face-to-face meetings offer content-specific information on various themes (e.g., 8th to 9th transition, early indicators, etc.) as well as facilitated time to learn from and share with other districts. In order to fully benefit from these face-to-face meetings, districts should plan to send a team of 4-8 staff. The "open house" week provides an opportunity to see districts' programs and services first-hand. The webinars will be on specific topics and will provide another venue to learn from other districts and experts in a particular field. The topical webinars offer content-specific information on promising practices occurring within Massachusetts. Each webinar theme (e.g., online courses, community partnerships, etc.) includes at least one presenter from a school or community implementing a promising approach related to dropout reduction. 2011-12 School Year Calendar for the Dropout Prevention & Recovery Work Group: October 24, 2011 - face-to-face meeting November 10, 2011 - webinar January 19, 2012 - webinar February 6-10 - open house week April 11, 2012 - face-to-face meeting June 7, 2012 - webinar Please watch the "news" section of the MassGrad homepage for details and registration information for the upcoming events.
