The room reservation process for SWH will occur on Feb. 8 and 10. The SWH process will precede the room reservation
process for the nine traditional residence halls.
The sign-up process allows first priority to eligible residents currently living in Southwest Hall and Southwest Hall resi-
dents who lived in Southwest Hall Fall 2010 semester, are currently on internship, co-op, student teaching, or study
abroad during Spring 2011 semester, and who were selected in the Eligibility Lottery.

those eligible to use the room reservation process during Phase 1.
Students may request specific bedroom preferences within a suite at the time of sign-up. Please be prepared to do so.
Specific suite preferences are not guaranteed and residents will be placed upon availability of open spaces by received
completed application and advance payment date.
Phase 1 will occur in Southwest Hall at a designated area of the Main Lobby.
Lines for SWH lottery sign-up may not form any sooner than one hour prior to start of sign-up.
Payment of $100 is due at the time of sign-up to reserve a space. Preferred payment should be in the form of a check or
money order made payable to UW Platteville. Cash will be accepted, but no receipt is provided.
All suites will be same gender within each suite.
Once available spaces are full, eligible students wishing to obtain a space in Southwest Hall will be placed on a waiting
list and will be taken in priority order.
If you are unable to be present for any of the sign-up procedures, you may send another student to represent you as a
“proxy”. Your proxy must provide your completed application and $100 payment for you to be considered eligible to sign-
The 2010-11 charge for SWH is $2147 per person per semester. This is $594 more per semester than a regular double
room. Rates for 2011-12 are not available at this time; rates are decided in July by the Board of Regents.
The SWH agreement is for the full academic year. Students will not be released from the agreement at semester
unless they graduate, student teach, study abroad, or participate in a university sponsored coop or internship.

Eligible current Southwest Hall (SWH) residents who have a group of three returning together in Southwest Hall may select one

need to currently reside in Southwest Hall. The “new” resident to that suite must turn in their completed 2011-2012 SWH Appli-
cation to the Southwest Hall Main Lobby area from 7pm-10pm.
***Please note that if you are a “new” suitemate joining a group of three, every effort should be made for all four of you to
sign-up at the same time. Should two or more returning roommates disagree on who should live in the open space(s),
the space will not be filled and will become available for the Phase 2 sign-up process.
Wednesday, February 9 – The Housing Office in Royce Hall and
Southwest Hall’s front desk will post the number of Southwest Hall
openings by gender after Phase 1 has been completed. It will be
posted about 1:00 p.m.
Thursday, February 10, 2011 -- Phase 2
Eligible on-campus residents interested in applying to live in Southwest Hall
Eligible current on-campus residents wishing to apply to live in Southwest Hall should bring their completed 2011-2012 SWH
Application and $100 payment for each person to the Velzy Commons for men and Nohr Gallery for women and be inside prior
to 7:00 p.m.
The only students who may participate are those selected in the Eligibility Lottery. Once all available spaces are filled, a num-
bered waiting list of applications will be held. If you are on the SWH waiting list, you will personally keep the $100 payment
until it is needed later to confirm your space if you are notified that your name is next on the list.
At 7:00 pm, each person in attendance who is eligible for the lottery will show the staff member their university ID.
Tickets will be used to select the order of the sign-up. Each person present will have an equal opportunity to have
their number selected in the drawing. (It does not matter what time you arrive at Velzy Commons or Nohr Gallery, as
long as you are present at 7:00 pm.)
THERE IS NO BENEFIT TO ARRIVING EARLY, but you will be last priority if you arrive after 7:00 p.m. There will be
Anyone who arrives after 7:00 pm may still be considered, but will be last priority and will receive a number based
upon their arrival order in the Velzy Commons or Nohr Gallery. These students will remain in the Gallery and Com-
mons until the lottery process is complete and their status is known.
Sign-up begins at 8:00pm (but may start earlier if lottery is completed before that time).
Students may sign up as singles or in groups of two, three, or four. There is no priority given to any particular size
group, but the more people that are in a group the statistical chances of your selection are positively affected in the
sign-up line as dictated by the drawing increase.
Ability to place people will depend upon the type of suites available by gender (4 person, 3 person, 2 person, single)
and will be administered by the Resident Director.
If one of your group’s names is drawn, the others who want to live within the same suite will all be registered at that
time for the same suite. All paperwork and money must be submitted at that time to confirm the reservation.
It is not necessary for all people who are interested in the lottery to be present. One person may bring all paperwork
for your group. However, it will increase your group’s odds of having someone selected if there is more than one
person present from your group. This can include a proxy.
Students must have sophomore status / or have lived in a residence hall for one year at time of move-in in order to
be eligible to live in Southwest Hall.
Students who are currently on residence hall probation for a second offense alcohol / drug violation are not eligible to
reserve a space in Southwest Hall. If someone who reserves a space in SWH is later found responsible for a second
alcohol / drug violation, their reservation for SWH will be cancelled.
Please be prepared to remain in the Velzy or Nohr areas until this process concludes.
Last year it took approximately one hour after the lottery portion was finished. This will depend upon the number of
vacancies, number of people in attendance, etc.
Southwest Hall Resident Director reserves the right to change sign-up procedures.
Once all available spaces have been filled, a SWH waiting list will be established for all eligible students who are interested in
Southwest Hall. Students on this list will be contacted in priority order. Declining an assignment will result in removal from the
waiting list. To be placed on the waiting list, students must meet eligibility requirements for Southwest Hall.
Traditional Hall Room Sign-up The sign-up process for the nine traditional resident halls will occur Feb. 15 and 17.
Please review the other materials that detail this process.
