Christine Pinnegar Named South Australia’s Number One Mum
Barnardos Celebrating 11 years of recognising wonderful Aussie Mums

Christine Pinnegar from Maggea has been named as the South Australian Finalist in the 2006 Barnardos
Australia’s Mother of the Year Awards today. Christine’s devotion and dedication to her family won her
acclaim amongst the judges. Christine will now take part in the National Announcement function in Sydney on
May 11.

These prestigious annual Awards, celebrating its 11th anniversary this year, recognise the enormous contribution
made by Australian Mums in shaping our lives and acknowledges an exceptional woman who is a true example
of Australian mothers. These Awards are also the only national Awards directly linked to Mothers Day.

Glynis Sequeira, Barnardos Australia Marketing Director said it was extremely difficult to narrow down the entries
from the thousands received as there are so many remarkable mothers. “Christine is an inspirational mother and
is extremely worthy of her finalist position in the 2006 Barnardos Australia’s Mother of the Year Awards.

Christine has four children of her own plus one adopted child and 17 grand-children. She and her husband (who
have been married for 41 years) have been long-term foster parents for 25 years and currently have two brothers
(13 and 12 years old) in their care. They also do emergency short-term fostering and respite care.

Christine’s belief is that she “was put on this earth to look after other people’s children.” She used to look after
her sister’s children and that “started the ball rolling.”

Christine and Wayne’s adopted daughter, Lizzie, came to them when she was just five months old as a heroin
addicted baby. After many traumatic and sleepless years, Lizzie is now a healthy 20-year old who is expecting
her first child later this year.

“She is a strong and supportive mother to all her children,” says her husband Wayne who nominated her.

Christine’s top is: “Keep an open mind, as what’s meant to be will be.”

Christine was presented with a Johnson & Johnson gift pack, pamper pack, Canon product
package, Vodafone package, Sydney Harbour Coffee Cruise, Lindt chocolate hamper, and ACP cook books.

The National Winner, that is, the 2006 Barnardos Australia’s Mother of the Year will receive a Ford Fiesta LX,
a three-night Great Barrier Reef Cruise from Captain Cook Cruises, and additional hampers from Johnson &
Johnson & Lindt.

The National Winner will be announced at a special event in Sydney on Thursday, May 11.
