IN A META-ANALYSIS OF SEVERAL STUDIES proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which are used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), were found to be helpful in improving one measure of asthma severity. PEOPLE WITH A HISTORY OF MELANOMA and other types of skin cancer are finding that vitamin D and calcium supplements might help reduce their risk of illness. More than 36,000 randomly selected postmenopausal women were assigned to take either a placebo or supplemental vitamin D 400 International Units (LU.) and calcium 1,000 milligrams (mg.) every day for seven years as a part of the Women's Health Initiative.
