North Carolina's agricultural industry, including food, fiber, and forestry, contributes $70 billion annually to the State's economy, accounts for 18% of the State's income, and employs over 1 8% of the work force serving as the state's largest industry (North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, 2011). The Alexander Central High School Agricultural Education program, located in Taylorsville, North Carolina, recently received a Lowes Home Improvement Grant for $3300.00 to install an aquaculture facility to furnish a safe food supply and provide an alternative to harvesting fish from natural waters.
