                               Secretary’s Message – April 2012
Hello everybody! It’s me, Jody, your friendly elks lodge secretary. The spring weather is here. Generally
warm days with some cool nights and some rain showers in the mix. Stay safe during the storm season. And
while spring emerges, so do lots of activities at your lodge. We just had our annual Easter Egg hunt over the
Easter weekend. There were about 200 kids in attendance. Thanks to the 30 plus volunteers who showed up on Wednesday
night to help stuff candy in the eggs. Thanks also to Tommy Emde, Shirley Hanus, Carrie and Charlie Manteufel, Lauren
Chaney and Seth and Beth for volunteering to help set up the fields Saturday. Special thanks to Win Patton for being the
emcee and providing the sound equipment for announcements. Our sponsors helped make the event a huge success and they
are Prestige Flooring, Walmart, Dacapo Music, Arbuckle Wireline and the Langlands. The support from these folks is greatly
appreciated. In addition to community activities, our lodge recently participated in the annual Kids Day in the Park. Kids
day is put on by the Dept of Human Services child abuse prevention group in recognition of child abuse awareness month.
Our lodge set up a booth at the event and handed out drug awareness material. We distributed over 500 coloring books,
over 800 drug awareness red ribbons, over 500 drug awareness bookmarks along with pamphlets about recognizing signs of
drug use and dangers. What a great program we have to offer to our community. Thanks to Lauren Chaney, Shirley Hanus,
Tommy Emde and Randy Simmons for helping with that event. There are more volunteer opportunities coming up with the
Ardmore Soup Kitchen. The Ardmore Elks are scheduled for that week May 7th thru the 11th. Contact Gene Scrugham for
additional information.

There was some good activity in the April meetings in regards to membership. New applications this month were: Stuart
Bradley, employed in pipeline construction and proposed by Larry Hartsell; Richard Reeder, proposed by Vim Dahya; Chaz
Cobb, freight broker for Absolute and proposed by Vim Dahya; Marc Hamilton, engineer for Arbuckle Wireline and proposed by
Vim Dahya; Shannon McElroy, social worker for DHS and proposed by Mike Barrick; Stephen Biehn, retired and proposed by
Diana Johnson, reinstatement for Brian Tarter by Steve Middleton. These applicants will be voted on at the first meeting in
May. During the first meeting of this past month, we voted on applications for Milton Floyd, Jamy Hamilton, Carol Wheeler,
Brad Manley, Lou Ann Stahl, Lloyd Vaughn, James Dunn and Mike Spandle. All applications were approved. Milton Floyd and
Jamy Hamilton were initiated during the second meeting of the month. Please make sure to great our new members and
make them feel welcome at your lodge. Great job to everyone on membership and keep it up! Bring your family and
friends out to the lodge and lodge events and show them what we are all about. There are so many worthwhile events,
activities and charitable things for you to be a part of. All you have to do is ask!! In addition to the new members and
proposers, I’d like to thank Vim Dahya for having the most candidates this year. What a great job you are doing promoting
membership in our lodge!

There has also been a lot of remodeling going on at the pool area. If you haven’t had the chance to come by and see it,
go by and take a look. It looks absolutely fantastic! The committee in charge of this huge undertaking has done a great
job and a lot of hard work has gone into the project as well as private funding. The pool officially opens Memorial Day
weekend so be sure to get your pool pass card ASAP. They are $25 for unlimited family access. If you choose not to
purchase a card, you can pay at the gate. There will be a guest charge of$3 per guest whether you are a member or
non-member. All money collected at the gate and from pool pass sales help pay for the chemicals and upkeep on the pool.
Also, once issued your pool pass card, make sure you have it with you when you visit the pool as you may be asked to
show it when you are there to verify members and pool pass holders. The 2012 pool rules are posted in this bulletin and if
you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at 580-222-7566 or email me at godybob@hotmail.com.

And speaking of charitable and fun events to participate in, you can keep up with events at your lodge by visiting
our website http://elks1906.blogspot.com and checking out the calendar website at http://plus.calendars.net/elks1906.

See you at the lodge! Jody
