LABORATORY, GENERAL, HOSPITAL COMPANY B, 164 Bed Combat Support Hospital (CSH)
                          MMS: N703/M703 LIN: M13275
                            As of date: 7 July 06
I.     Assumptions, Policies and Guidelines:
       A.   The concept of clinical relevance of medical laboratory data takes
on a new dimension in a theater of operations. Only those studies that are
essential and will influence the treatment of the casualty at each level of
care should be obtained.
       B.   This set is designed to support a level III casualty distribution
of approximately two-thirds wounded-in-action and one-third disease.
       C.   Multiples of this set and/or alternate blood bank and augmentation
sets may be required to meet specific contingencies.

II.    Limitations/Dependency Statement:
       A.   Does not contain microbiological culture and suscaptibility testing.
       B.   This set is not a reference laboratory.

III.   Designed Primary Staff:   Officers:   Laboratory; Enlisted:   Medical Laboratory
Specialist.

IV.     Mission: To provide basic laboratory diagnostic testing at Level III,
Company B, 164-bed Combat Support Hospital (CSH). This set contains the
equipment, durable and consumable supplies to sustain operations for THREE
DAYS.

V.     Capabilities:
       A.   This set contains the necessary supplies and equipment to provide
clinical laboratory testing to support diagnosis and care of battlefield and
disease and non-battle Injuries (DNBI). The MMS contains a wide range of
laboratory equipment and reagents that will be utilized by MOS 91K (Laboratory
NCO/Specialist) and Medical Service Corps FA 71E (Clinical Laboratory Officer)
to perform diagnostic tests. At a minimum, the MES will allow the following
tests to be performed:
        1 Biochemistry (blood, serum, and/or plasma based):
          (a)   Blood Gas Analysis
          (b)   Electrolyte Levels (Sodium, Potassium, Chloride, Carbon
Dioxide)
          (c)   Creatinine
          (d)   Amylase
          (e)   Aspartate Amino Transferase (AST or SGOT)
          (f)   Alanine Amino Transferase (ALT or SGPT)
          (g)   Creatine Kinase (CK or CPK)
          (h)   Glucose
          (i)   Urea Nitrogen (BUN)
          (j)   Total Bilirubin
          (k)   Calcium
          (l)   CSF Glucose
          (m)   CSF Protein
       2 Hematology/Urinalysis
          (a)   Complete Blood Count (CBC)
          (b)   WBC Differential
          (c)   Prothrombin Time (PT)
          (d)   Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT)
          (e)   CSF Cell Count and Differential
          (f)   Urinalysis (Dipstick) and Microscopic Exam
       3 Microbiology/Serology
          (a)   Occult blood
          (b)   Malaria Exam, Thick & Thin Smears
            (c)   Gram Stain and Microscopic Exam for Bacteria
            (d)   Standard Serologic Test for Syphilis (RPR)
            (e)   Examination of Stool, Blood, and Urine For Ova, Cysts, and
Parasites
            (f)   Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) Preps
            (g)   Pregnancy Tests (hCG – qualitative)

VI.    Set Computations: Computations below are derived from USAMMA’s Theater
Enterprise-Wide Logistics System (TEWLS) database, and the previous set file
in the directorate. The Bill of Material (BOM) 4 in TEWLS was updated with
required changes in Nov 04.

VIII. Transportation Analysis: In the 164 Bed, Company B, CSH, the Lab
section is authorized one Container Cargo (MILVAN), LIN C13825, that provides
1,280 cubic feet of shipping capacity and one Shelter Tactical, Two Sided, LIN
S01359, that provides 864 cubic feet of shipping capacity. This capacity is
adequate to accommodate the weight and cube of this set.

IX.    Basis of Issue: One per 164-Bed Combat Support Hospital

X.     Designed Employment:    Basic set for the 164 Bed Combat Support Hospitals
