Goal: Create high quality report including interview segments.

The Reporter produces a story. The story tells Who, What, When, Where, How, and
Why. It answers all the questions that are important to the story. The facts must be
accurate. An interview is essential to any report.

Checklist

_____ Rehearse your Author script at home in front of the mirror

_____   Rehearse your script in the classroom; do not take the script out of the room
_____   Use storyboard to show the videographer the shots you will need
_____   Practice your lines in the classroom with your videographer
_____   Determine, with the videographer, the exact locations and angles for your shots

_____ Look over the hints for doing an interview
         1. Review your questions before you start the interview
         2. Speak clearly.
         3. Don’t ask questions that can be answered “Yes” or “No”.
         4. Be a good listener.
         5. Take good, detailed notes.
         6. Be friendly.
         7. Have fun!

_____ Sign out of class with your videographer

_____ ONLY USE FIRST NAMES FOR STUDENTS
_____ NEVER TAPE IN FRONT OF BARE WALLS, PORT-A-JOHNS or WINDOWs

_____   Set everything up for the interview BEFORE getting the student out of class
_____   Once everything is set up, go get the interviewee
_____   Tell the interviewee exactly what you are going to do
_____   When the camcorders red light goes on, count down from 5 before starting.
_____   Speak loudly and clearly; eyes on the interviewee (or the camera for stand-ups)
_____   When you finish your lines, freeze and silently count down from 5 again.
_____   Sent the interviewee back to class right away
_____   If you have another person to interview, set up, then do the same steps again

_____ Record your introduction… it should be about 5 sentences long and set up the
story and interviews…
_____ Record all your questions again (so you can edit them in to the story)
_____ Record your two or three line standup for the closing and your sign off

_____ Check your storyboard to see if you have all the shots you need and can use
_____ Come back to the classroom, then check the video to see how it looks & sounds
