Choose one of the four major eras
Using key vocabulary words write a complete
description of Iowa as it is believed to have existed.
Include the types of land features that may have
existed, the climate, any life forms that may have
been present and any changes that may have
occurred.
Give the evidence that supports your description.
The final copy must be typed or neatly written using
complete sentences. It should be correct for
conventions.
Get Graphic!
•Create a graphic organizer for the information from this unit.
•You may choose the design that makes the most sense to you. You
will see some examples shown below.
Hand in two copies of your organizer: One with only the headings
and a second that includes your notes and information.
Post Card
•Imagine you have taken a time machine journey to a past era in Iowa for a vacation.
•Design a post card to send back to a friend or relative in current times.
•Include: A picture, A description of major attractions, A note about your favorite sights or events.
•All information should be historically accurate for the chosen era.
•The card may be enlarged to poster size, if desired.

Jump Rope Rhyme
Using at least 10 facts from the unit make up a jump rope rhyme
that you can teach to the class. You may perform it for us or teach
it to others who will demonstrate it to the class.

Make up a song or song lyrics that have an Iowa nature theme.
Put the lyrics in final written form, correct for conventions.
Present the song or lyrics to the class. You can even try to teach us
to sing it!

Compare and Contrast the environment of Iowa during two prehistoric eras.
Choose from the volcanic, shallow sea, tropical or glacial periods.
A Venn Diagram may be a helpful way to organize your thoughts.

Time Travelers
• Write a story about someone who travels
through time to at least two or more of the
eras of prehistoric Iowa.
• Remember that evidence does not support the existence of any humans during
these eras.
• Be sure to include descriptive details that are accurate for each era.

Create a timeline of the eras of Iowa’s natural
history.
You may use poster paper, timeliner or other
methods.
You can include pictures or graphics.
It should include the four era names and key
