I am Ms. Astrid F. Kowlessar, and I am passionate about connecting with people and organizations in a focused, investigative sense, for value sharing and growth. She is always keen on attracting like minded individuals and institutions to collaborate, communicate and create. My academic and professional background revolves around Marketing, Project Finance and Corporate Banking. Yet her desire for connecting, networking and outreach drives her passion for social media as an instrument of fun change and growth. From something as simple as using an e-book for viral marketing, to amazing real time live video streams from a cell phone to the Internet, social media is hear to stay and grow. We the people are our own journalists – WE REPORT. Armed with cell phone, camera, video, voice recorder and a social online network, people are changing the face of media, and changing how we perceive the world. One connection request, one blog, vlog and podcast at a time! I understand the vision and the possibilities of blending the old with the new. Twitter, Facebook, WordPress, Ning, the Village, YouTube…we have so many social media network sites to study and to include where necessary. Social media grows virally fast – there is so much to constantly teach and learn. Everyone acts as leaders and followers in this quest to create collaborate and communicate. I know the funding process. I know what grantees and investors need to learn about each other, especially for sustainable development. That calls for great social media investor relations! Social media for the greater good, and as a social media butterfly, I would be happy to be part of it.

I have two pet peeves with today’s media. First, the media industry is now known for negative news, as absolute news. From communities in decline, bombings, murder, kidnappings, floods, gangs, violence, wars, this is most of what we see, hear and read. But is this all there is in the world? Second, Public Relations and marketing, especially at the corporate level, are now used to “spin” or “greenwash” stories to stakeholders to showcase “Corporate Social Responsibility”, thus masking internal weaknesses which we find out about only later when such individual corporations go bankrupt. Social media allows laymen and actual communities may share their own recommendations for change and do their own inquiries into company best practices. Triumph International’s Sustainable Corporate Governance training initiatives empower organizations and stakeholders to pro-actively strengthen internal controls, and so allow marketing and PR to take its natural course as a complement to awareness and promotion.
