       Concept Mapping Rocks Lab
Objective-
 To identify and organize key terms in each rock category.

 To use the key terms to make a concept map to help review for
    the Rock test.
 Use the concept map and review cards for rock test review

  Methods-
 Obtain the key terms for each rock type (igneous, sedimentary
and metamorphic)You will find these in your notes under “key
terms” and also on the attached page.

   Write out a separate card-approx. 2” x 4” (you may cut a
standard index card in half) for each key term. Use a dark
    marker for the key term.

 On the back of the card make sure to write either
    “ig”(igneous) , “sed.” (sedimentary) or “met”(metamorphic) and a
brief description of the key term. Use a pencil or pen for this
so it does not show through the card.

  Procedure-
 After all key terms have been placed on the cards…mix them
up like a deck of cards.

 Starting with the card labeled “rocks” on the top, start to
develop a concept map, organized by rock type as you turn
over each card. (ie. Igneous terms go under the igneous
    heading….)
 For the first time you go through your stack of cards you may
use your notes. Follow this procedure 3 times!! You should be
able to complete your map with out notes by the third time! If
   not ….do it again!

 Once your concept map is complete on the table in front of
you, GET TEACHER APPROVAL and now copy it on to the
provided blank page labeled “Rock Concept Map Review”.

 Answer questions attached to the lab. You will hand in the
cover page, questions and concept map only. Keep the cards
   for your own review.

              Rock Concept Map Review
    Due Monday Nov. 7th

 Using the key terms below-obtain a standard index
card (3 x 5) and cut it in half.
 On each card in a dark marker color, write one of the
    key terms below.
 On the back of the card in pen or pencil write “ig.” If
it is an igneous term, “sed” if it is a sedimentary term
or “met” if it is a metamorphic term.
 Write in any information on this side of the card you
might find helpful. No more than one sentence, this
card is meant to be a quick review card.
 Bring all completed cards to school for the Rock
    Review Lab.
