					                 Career Pathing Executive Summary
Project:
     Career pathing is a systematic long-term approach to empower employees to shape and mold their
        career while meeting the agencies’ (SFWMD, DEP, & USACE) goals for growth and succession
        planning.
Objectives:
     Create career path models for all employees
     Provide templates and structure for employee’s to establish and achieve goals/milestones
     Identify training/education/experiences
     Provide opportunities for developmental assignments and special projects
Justification:
     Employees have expressed concern and frustration on how to achieve his/her goals. This program
        will:
            o Outline knowledge, skills, and abilities for advancement
            o Assist long term employee development
            o Empowers and motivates employees
     Management often struggles with how to motivate, encourage, and uplift employees. This
        program will benefit management by:
            o Providing a systematic framework to succession planning
            o Providing opportunities for open discussion and long-term goal setting
     The agency needs a strategy for putting the right person in the right job. This program will benefit
        the agency by:
            o Creating a stronger organization
            o Utilizing current performance management system
            o Leveraging current training programs
            o Integrating recruitment, hiring and development system
Methodology:
     Identify current conditions/organization structure
     Develop timelines/roadmaps for various careers
     Outline personal development plan requirements – including success criteria
     Establish a career pathing resource website
Deliverables:
     Career-pathing will include such components as:
        1) Roadmap associated with each career path
        2) Personal Development Plan
                a. Mentorship/shadowing opportunities
                b. Employee development opportunities
                c. Education opportunities and schedule
                d. Outline short- and long-term goals
        3) Success criteria and evaluation methods
        4) A website to browse the career roadmaps, training, and look for developmental opportunities.
        5) Establish a technical assistance group or counselors to guide employees and supervisors.
Assumptions/Constraints:
     Resources (funding, supplies, etc) will be made available.
     Project will be phased (e.g. planning, research, implementation, etc.).
     Employee will use personal time when required.
     Career pathing will be dynamic and will evolve as necessary.
