					 LOW COST SPAY NEUTER OPTIONS FOR CATS IN KERN COUNTY

KC Animal Control (vouchers):
KCAC has a voucher program for low income (proof required) residents of Kern County. Vouchers
cost $20 each and cover the entire cost of spay or neuter. Vouchers can only be used at
specified local vets. Maximum of 4 vouchers per person per lifetime. A limited number are
available each month. Vouchers can be purchased in person on a first come first serve basis on
the third Saturday of each month, 10am to 3pm, at the South Mount Vernon location. Call for
locations in outlying areas.

Bakersfield SPCA:
    HOPE Foundation transports from SPCA to Fresno twice per month. Cats stay overnight,
       and return the next day. Rates are $45 to $55 with no income requirements. Rabies
       vaccine proof required, or administered for $12. Kern Humane voucher (below)
       accepted. Appointments and payment are required ahead of time.
    Periodic low cost S/N clinics in town at specified locations.

Kern Humane Society (vouchers):
They provide free vouchers worth $10 to $15 to help with S/N cost for low income residents.
They are not very strict about their low income requirements. Vouchers are available in person on
the first Saturday of each month only, 10am to 3pm. Maximum two vouchers per address.
Vouchers can be used at the HOPE/SPCA program (above), Mountain Communities SPCA (below),
any Angeldogs clinic, or at any local vet. Call KHS for voucher info in outlying areas.

Friends of the Kern County Animal Shelters Foundation (vouchers):
Beginning in the spring of 2012, they will provide free vouchers worth $40 with no income
requirements. A very limited number of vouchers will be available each month, and will be
available on a first come first serve basis. Vouchers can be used at any Angeldogs clinic,
combined with Kern Humane vouchers (above), and at most vets in Kern County but call vets first
to confirm. Procedures for obtaining a voucher will be available on the website.

Happy Kern Cats (feral cat TNR project):
Thanks to Petsmart Charities, Kern County Animal Control has been awarded a grant to fund a two
year project (beginning fall 2011) of semi-monthly clinics to alter feral cats from the 93306 zip
code. Volunteers are needed.

Tehachapi Humane Society (vouchers):
They provide free vouchers for varying amounts for residents of Tehachapi, Keene, Hart Flat,
Caliente, Mojave, California City, Rosamond, Boron and North Edwards areas. Vouchers can be
combined with Friends vouchers (above), and used at most vets in Kern County but call vets first
to confirm. They will also fund $30 to $50 towards TNR of feral cats.

Mountain Communities SPCA:
They transport cats to Valley Vet Non Profit Spay & Neuter Clinic in Simi Valley every two weeks
for residents of 93222, 93225, & 93243 zip codes. Cost is $47.50; vaccinations and testing also
available for $10 each. Kern Humane and Friends vouchers (above) accepted. They also have
information on other funding sources. Download the Cat S/N Handout from the website and
contact Becky at MCSPCA. Also contact Becky regarding funding for feral cat TNR.
