There is often some debate about whether there is really a cure for eczema. It used to be widely
accepted that there was no true cure and that there was really only treatments that would reduce
the impact of the painful symptoms. This theory would still be the prevailing view, at least amongst
medical experts, although there are other theories that suggest legitimate options to prevent the
condition. In the end, it probably comes down to semantics and personal interpretation about what
a cure means to an individual. The important thing for most people to recognize is that there are
several different types of treatment available that will effectively act as a cure for eczema or at
least a long-term solution to eradicate it.

Eczema is a term used to describe various types of skin conditions. However, in recent years
people have begun to note that the real cause of the condition is often related to issues with the
immune system. So if you can eradicate the things from your life that cause your skin irritations,
then you should be able to reduce the impact and hopefully stop it from returning. So in essence
this can be called a cure if you consider that you might not feel the physical and mental effects of
eczema again. This is not a quick fix or an easy solution to follow through with. Although you may
see immediate results, it can require a strong commitment to work through the potential triggers
that cause your eczema. So it may take some time to determine what changes you need to make
and then actually implement them.

Treatment Strategies

The condition classified as eczema is relatively common with an estimated 20% of the world
having or likely to experience it during their life. The standard prescribed treatment is likely to be
either emollients or steroids. In most cases though, the symptoms are relatively mild so medical
intervention is not required. You want to ensure that any dry or flaky skin is well hydrated so apply
a moisturizer. If the condition becomes more severe, then you may need to be prescribed steroids
or immunosuppressant tablets. They can potentially provide some unpleasant side effects so they
should only be used for short periods and in accordance with your doctor's advice.
There are also other types of treatment available to reduce irritation and even more severe
eczema conditions. It is often recommended that you use a thick moisturizer, rather than a thin
lotion, as a way to keep your skin hydrated. Another simple tactic is to avoid sudden changes of
temperature as this can sometimes cause the skin to sweat and lead to further irritation. It is also
worth avoiding synthetic fabrics which could increase your potential to sweat. You want your skin
to breath as much as possible so try to stick with natural materials like cotton.
Bathing can be an issue for some sufferers as there is sometimes conflicting advice. They key
things to remember are limit your number of baths and to always use a soap that is scent-free.
Your clothes should be regularly washed in a non-biological washing powder that will work to
reduce potential irritation and inflammation.
It is now widely acknowledged that diet plays a critical role in controlling eczema. Obviously
natural foods are much better for you than processed or fatty foods. Studies have also shown the
importance of eating foods that are high in amino acids and essential fats. In addition, normal
vitamins and minerals are important in your diet to help reduce any symptoms. Avoid any food that
you suspect you may be allergic to but look to increase your intake of fresh foods. Vegetables
generally are always great options, especially ones like cabbage, carrots and kale that are known
to be high in vitamins A and B. Also consider foods that are high in magnesium like fresh green
vegetables and nuts.

Even if you can't find a cure for eczema, there are plenty of great ideas that you can try which
should help to control, and hopefully eliminate, this condition from your life.
