Protecting Yourself Online with a Strong Password
As technology enhancements continue to evolve, risks also present themselves amid the conveniences offered. Strong
passwords are the key to staying safe online. Weak passwords allow hackers to gain access to your personal information
quickly and this could create weeks, months and possibly years of headaches for you.
Here are some tips for creating, changing and maintaining a strong password:
Create a password that is at least eight characters in length
Use a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers and
punctuation/special characters such as &$#
Use a different password for sites that contain financial information
than those of less importance
Do not use the names of friends, family or pets
Do not use dates
Use syllables or acronyms - for example, you could use the first letters
of a familiar phrase – I like to play golf on Sunday! Becomes Il2pgoS!
Never share your password with anyone
Change your password at least every 90 days
Keep your password safe – do not write
it down or let your computer save
To change your ECU Online password,
simply log into your account
and click on “User Options” and then
“Change Password” – It’s that easy!
