               Fair & Just Behavior
Life is never fair or just.
Some people have great ability; some do not.
Some have tremendous wealth; some do not.
Some are fortunate; some are not.
Horrible things often happen to good people, and fortune often smiles on the
                                      most evil.
That is the way of the world and the life we lead within it.
Your duty is no more and no less than to make the world less unfair by reducing
unfairness where and when you encounter it.
You can never think that you will always make matters completely fair or just.
                               YOU WILL NOT.
You can only work toward making them less unfair and less unjust.
                 Road to Brotherhood
 Education
 Educating pledges on the fraternity and its
history is the primary and most basic component
of the pledge program. The aims of these
educational goals are to prepare the pledge for
the Fraternal Pledge Exam and also to teach the
pledge a basic understanding of chapter
        organization and procedures.
 Fraternity history - The traditions and long-term
success of the fraternity. The bulk of the
questions on the Fraternal Pledge Exam concentrate
             on historical information.
 Organization and policies - Chapter level
             organizational structure and policies. Basic
regional and fraternity level organization should
be taught to a lesser extent.
 Parliamentary procedures - Procedures for
             voting and conducting meetings.
                Road to Brotherhood
 Professional Goals
 Professional development is often the initial reason for a
pledge’s interest in the Fraternity. Providing opportunities to
build professional skills both through experience and training
should be one of the missions of the chapter for all pledges
        and members.
 Working in teams - How to work with others to achieve a common,
             measurable goal.
 Professional behavior and skills - Self-conduct and proficiency in
business-related activities such as interviewing, management, conflict
             and negotiation.
                  Road to Brotherhood
 Brotherhood Goals
 Building a sense of brotherhood in pledges is
often the most challenging part of the pledge
         education process. The most important
point to keep in mind with the
brotherhood goals is that they are most
         effectively achieved through
         demonstration.
 Meaning of brotherhood - Benefits,
              responsibilities and expectations. Highlight
how brotherhood is different than friendship.
 Membership lifecycle: The stages of
membership; from pledge to student brother
              to alumni brother.
 Rituals: The purpose of rituals and the
              agreements of membership contained therein.
                       Success
 Success is often measured as the
    accumulation of wealth and power.
 We cannot take this with us beyond
    the grave.
 True success is most often achieved by
    helping others become successful.
 The more people in life you help, the
more people who will be there to help
you when you need it most.
