WALLPAPER: A term used to describe a picture
or graphic set as a background image on your computer.

HOW DO I SET MY WALLPAPER?
By far the easiest method of setting an image as
background is to open Windows Explorer, locate the
picture you wish to use, click on it once to select the
picture and then click on ‘Set as desktop background’ in
the left column. (See Fig: 1)

                           1
                          Fig: 1

WHAT IF I WANT TO CHANGE MY
WALLPAPER?
If the image has not previously been used as wallpaper,
use the above method.

If previously used, right click on any area of your
desktop and go to ‘Properties’

                             2
                        Fig: 2

This screen will open

                          3
                         Fig: 3

Select the previously used file in the ‘Background’ box
and then click ‘Apply’. Then click ‘OK’.

WHAT IF I WANT TO ALTER THE
IMAGE?
Nb The following applies to the Microsoft Paint
application which is very basic and has distinct imaging
limitations. If you have imaging software (eg Paint Shop
Pro etc) installed on your system, it may be easier to use
that.

First, open up Microsoft Paint (a utility installed on all
Windows Systems). It can be found here;-

                           Fig: 4

                              5
This screen opens;-

                          Fig: 5

Click on File and navigate to the picture you wish to alter
and double click to open it on the Paint Screen;-

                             6
                          Fig:6

Alter the image as you wish using the tools in the left
hand pain. Eg you may wish to add some text. (nb in this
example no amendments are made to retain clarity)

Once you are happy with your efforts, we need to paste it
as a background, so you need to click again on ‘File’

                            7
                          Fig: 7

It will be noted that you have two options (Tiled or
Centered). Tiled back grounds look like this;-

                            8
                           Fig: 8

And centered like this;-

                             9
                         Fig: 9

However, when you click on either of these options you
will probably see this error message;-

                          10
                          Fig: 10

Therefore, return to the ‘File’ menu and add a letter a to
the beginning or end of the title and click ‘Save’

Setting the background, as Tiled or Centered, will again
bring up the error message in Fig:10 (limitations –
remember) but do not worry. Minimize the paint window
and right click somewhere on your desktop. Select
properties again and click the ‘Desktop’ tab.

                            11
                          Fig: 11

Select your saved file from the list and click ‘Apply’.

Your new desktop Wallpaper should now be in situ.

n.b. If you need your wallpaper to fill the whole of your
desktop screen, you must select an image of suitable size
                            12
depending upon your screen resolution settings i.e.
800x600 or, you must resize the image to a larger scale.
