Friends Remember Nina K. Peace with Memorial Scholarship
RICHMOND, VA (October 13, 2005) – A memorial scholarship fund has been established at
J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in honor of Ashland’s dedicated leader and community
servant, Nina K. Peace.
The Nina K. Peace Memorial Scholarship was initiated by longtime personal friends Janice G.
Henicheck and Jerry P. Owen who wanted to recognize Peace’s accomplishments and her
community contributions by establishing the memorial endowment.
Nina K. Peace was the Ashland representative to the Hanover County Board of Supervisors from
1976-1990. She served as Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Judge in Hanover and Caroline
counties from 1990-1996, helping to found the Court Appointed Special Advocates program.
Among her many other community initiatives, Peace helped create the Hanover Chapter of the
American Heart Association and the Hanover Citizens for Sensible Growth organization. She was
also a member of the Leadership Metro Richmond, Class of 1985 and a Paul Harris Fellow in
“Nina was an active participant in many community agencies and organizations, one of which
was the Hanover Rotary Club. Her life exemplified the Rotary motto “Service above self”. I
know of no one who gave to their community in such a selfless way,” says Owen, past president
and board member of Hanover Rotary, past chairman of Hanover County Board of Supervisors.
All Hanover County students with a 3.0 Grade Point Average who wish to pursue a degree in the
Administration of Justice field are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
“The individual should have a good sense of community service and public service as reflected in
Nina’s life,” adds Henicheck, past president and board member of Hanover Rotary.
The scholarship will be further financed by donations from individuals and businesses who wish
to remember Peace’s contributions to the justice system.
“The scholarship will enable the recipient to pursue their career in Justice Administration and
carry on Nina’s tradition of service,” says Henicheck.
