2. CLV update Tara/Corey
Multi-Village Orientations—We would like to be at least
two of the Mutli-Village Orientations this summer. Tara
has talked with Patty Thornton, New Director of Summer
Programs, and they have a meeting set up to talk about
this issue as well as immersion related issues. John
raised the issue of checking into their visas. Corey
passed out information sheet to distribute at CLV to make
changes. We will add immersion contact information on
3. MAIN Event Planning Carol
SOPA/COPE and other oral assessments. The date will be
Friday, April 28 from 4:30-7:00 at Adams Spanish
Immersion School in St. Paul. We will be learning about
the different oral proficiency assessments. Teachers will
also present about what they learned from participating
in this process and the tools.
Tara reiterated that it is not a standardized tool. Each
program will be at a different place. We are assessing
schools and how they are developing. It would be useful
for us to gather data from the different schools to see
how we are improving.
This tool can also be used to see common fossilized
errors. We are testing a sampling of students.
Megan mentioned that it would be great to show clips.
We will also talk about informal oral assessments also in
addition to the panel talk re:
There will be an opportunity to talk around grade level
teams about oral proficiency assessments.

4. CARLA/MAIN update Tara
MAIN blog—most current database and minutes from this
year have been uploaded.
The ACIE newsletter will go out shortly. They are asking
for feedback; people can fill out information and fax it
back to CARLA. It is a part of the grant, and your
participation is requested.
Focus groups will take place during the summer for
administrators, parents, and possibly parents regarding
challenges in immersion.

6. K-12 Curriculum Framework Corey
If anyone is interested in purchasing the Portland Public
Schools Japanese Magnet Program Framework for oral
language, written language, and culture, please send
Corey a check for $112 payable to Portland Public
Schools. Please fill out the form that was distributed at
the meeting, and I will send them all together. If you
were not at the meeting, but you would like a form, I can
fax it to you. Corey will process the order on Monday,
