					               Spot the Difference! (Part 1)




Picture 1 – Original Scan (800x585 pixels at 200 per inch – 10cm x 7cm) – 222Kb in Size

Picture 2 – Saved Compressed at 50% - 35.9Kb in Size

Picture 3 – Saved Compressed at 75% - 20Kb in Size

In Paint Shop Pro – save your files (Save As – Click on Options) at 50% and save much
more space!
(Try 75% but it might be too much)                 Don’t forget to delete the original file!!!
Compressing Files (Part 1).
                              File Compression By Compression Factor!

                              1) Load the File in Paint Shop Pro.

                              2) File – Save AS and change the name of
                              the file! (Add a 1 or a 2).

                              3) Click on the Options button.


                              4) Move the Slide Bar to 50% or more.

                              5) Click on OK and then Save.

                              6) Close PSP and then reload the file and
                              CHECK that it is still ok!

                              7) Remember to delete the original file!


                              There are ways of doing this to a batch of
                              files, more info in later editions. 

Picture 1 – Original Scan 2400 x 1800 pixels (15cm x 11 cm) 400 Pixels Per Inch – 1.28mb

Picture 2 – Same size but saved with 50% Compression (as per Part 1 Instructions) – 260Kb

Picture 3 – Saved with 50% Compression - AND Resized
             (1344 x 1008 pixels (11.4cm x 8.5cm) 300 Pixels Per Inch - 127Kb in Size

In Paint Shop Pro – save your files (Image – Resize) physically smaller and save much
more space!
(5cm x 8cm is big enough for most printed images!) Don’t forget to delete the original file!!!
Compressing Files (Part 2).
                              File Compression By Changing Size!

                              1) Load the File in Paint Shop Pro.

                              2) File – Save As and change the name of
                              the file! (Add a 1 or a 2 etc). Compress the
                              image as in Part 1 instructions

                              3) In addition click Image - Resize.

                              4) Change the Pixel Percentage to make the
                              image physically smaller! Consider also
                              the resolution!
                                                  OR

                              5) Change the width of the picture in
                              centimetres. (8cm by 10cm is normally
                              quite big enough!)

                              6) Click on OK and then Save.

                              7) Close PSP and then reload the file and
                              CHECK that it is still ok!

                              8) Remember to delete the original file!

                                There is NO point in having an original
                                image size bigger then the size you are
                                        printing out on paper!
