I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and am now working for an accountant on Maui. Because my classes were taught evenings and weekends over TV or online, I could still work full time and care for my family. This degree gave my life direction; it opened doors and career opportunities—the same can happen for you.“ Gabby Gibbins Carbonaro CPAs & Management Group “When I returned to Maui after graduating from a university on the mainland, I did not have the experience or skills to work at a job that was fulfilling. After working many irregular jobs, I started to attend Information and Computer Science classes at MCC. My instructors were very supportive of my efforts and gave me the encouragement I needed. The internships that I am doing are giving me the work experience and skills that I need to enter the Computer Science field. If you are looking for a more fulfilling career, attending MCC is a great place to start because of its supportive faculty and staff and the high standard of education that is provided to students.” Jennifer Tom, ECET ICS Student Center for Adaptive Optics Akamai Intern At Maui Community College, students can— ■ ■ ■ ■ Apply practical theories from classroom work Gain exposure to facilities on and off campus Develop contacts for employment after graduation Develop human relations skills through interaction with co-workers Connect coursework to employment goals Expand occupational role models Develop job search skills Identify specialized career assistance programs Expand career options beyond those which are traditionally held by females and males Solve the critical need to earn a family wage (Source: OSDCTE/University of Hawai‘i–2003) AUTO BODY REPAIR & PAINTING Career & Technical Education at Maui Community College ■ ■ ■ ■ ■ At Maui Community College, students can explore— ■ ■ Accounting, Business Careers, Business Technology, and Fashion Technology Maui Culinary Academy, Hospitality and Tourism, and Agriculture & Natural Resources Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Automotive Technology, and Auto Body Repair and Painting Allied Health, Human Services, and Administration of Justice Cooperative Education and Service Learning “Why nursing? As a meteorologist student at UH, I would drive my roommate to and from his nursing clinicals. Curious about what he did, I witnessed caring for people, a love for life while helping others. I discovered that nursing is not based on your gender. Nursing gives you the chance to change someone’s day, simply by making them smile.” John Campos, Nurse Kula Hospital ■ ■ Maui Community College does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, age, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, disability, marital status, arrest and court records, sexual orientation, or status as a covered veteran.
