configure a printer on Windows 7_XP_Vista connected to Etrayz Powered By Docstoc
This tutorial describes how to configure a printer on Windows 7/Windows XP/Windows
Vista for a printer connected to the Etrayz.

Steps described are for Windows 7 but Vista and XP are almost the same.

Connect USB Printer on lowest USB port on the back of the Etrayz (See Etrayz
Manual)
Enable/start the Printserver on the Etrayz (See Etrayz Manual)

The solution is to use an LPR port with "LPR Byte Counting Enabled" enabled

Login to Windows 7/Vista/Windows XP

First check if LPR Port Monitor service is installed in Windows 7

Start --> Control Panel --> Programs --> Turn Windows Features on or off

Turn Windows Features on or off --> Print and Document Services
Select --> LPR Port Monitor
Ok

If you created an Etrayz lp printer according to the procedure from the Etrayz manual,
delete this Etrayz lp Printer from Windows 7 (We are going to make a new one)

Now we create a new Etrayz printer configuration:

Start --> Devices and Printers

Add a Printer

Add a local Printer
Select --> Create a new port:

Type of port: Standard TCP/IP Port (Don't choose LPR port!)

Next

Hostname or IP adress:

Port name:

Un-select: Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use

Next

Detecting TCP/IP Port: --> Wait until ready (Finds nothing)
Select: Custom

Select: Settings

Protocol: LPR

Queue name: lp

Select: LPR Byte Counting Enabled (Important!!!!)

OK

Next

Do one of the following: ( I prefer option 2 and then option 1)

1. Select: your printer

2. Select: Windows Update (--> Driverstore will be updated with latest Printer Drivers)
3. Select: Have Disk (--> In case you downloaded and unpacked a driver in a folder)

After selecting your printer driver:

Next

Printer name:

Next

Select: Do not share this printer

Next

Finish

This worked with all my Windows 7 machines @home. Even with my Windows 2008
R2 printserver and Windows XP workstation.

Let me know if this was helpfull
