Metal Scrap Recycling

The manufacturing industries throws out millions of tons scrap every year
without recycling them in their industries. These scrap metals are now
exported to developing countries like India, China and other south Asian
countries. The recycling process includes different stages like
collecting the material, processing and cleaning them. When they are
ready to reuse these recycled metals will be send back to manufacturing
industries those who are using recycled metals for their new products.
Most common recycled products like Newspapers, plastic bottles, batteries
don?t fall into the category metal recycling. Aluminium and steel are the
two major metals used for recycling. Most of the products made of these
above listed materials are recycled products only. As per a survey more
than 70% of the aluminum cans manufactured every year was produced from
recycled metal. The recycling rate seems to be keep on increasing when it
comes to aluminum cans. But this is not the same for other metals.

Lack of awareness in recycling

Listed are some of the key factors why other metals are not recycled as
aluminium. The advantage with the aluminum recycling is because of its
close loop recycling process. Most of the aluminum cans are recycled
within 60 days after they are used. Also they don?t need big investments
or costly machines to recycle these cans whereas the other metals like
copper, gold, silver and brass cannot be recycled in small quantities
.These metals need high end technologies and machines to make them ready
to use for new products. Another main disadvantage is lack of awareness
among people with these products made of recycled precious metals. The
products with the label recycled seem to have a negative impact among
people and they are treated as second quality products.

Advantages with the metal recycling

As per U.S. Environmental Protection Agency statistics nearly 60% of the
aluminum cans manufactured comes from recycled materials and 65% of steel
cans are recycled and used. This alone saves some $800 million every
year. It?s not about getting profits with the recycled products anymore.
More over as per the studies by Imperial College London recycling
delivers annual CO2 reductions of 500 million tones. There may be
insufficient resources in future to sustain current rate of metal
consumption. So it?s in our hands to minimize and reverse this damage by
increasing environmentally-responsible recovery and reuse of valuable
materials like copper, aluminum, gold, silver, brass and silver.

Some developed countries like United States have strict policies now to
reuse the above listed materials. Check with your local authorities
before throwing out these precious materials.
