Did you know...
 ...that Britney picks her toenails?
 ...that Britney hates her feet? She thinks her toes are ugly!
...that Britney does not want to get married until
"I was sitting in the Spearses' living room and I heard what I thought
was the radio playing real loud. Turns out it wasn't the radio at all, it
was Britney singing in the bathroom."
- Ginger Simmons, Spears family
"Once Britney makes up her mind to do something, look out! You'd
better believe she's gonna do it. Just stand back and give my sister
some room."

- Bryan Spears
"She is so cool, and she's a really good singer and sister. When I
grow up, I'm gonna be just like her."
- Jamie Lynn Spears
"She has this sweet innocence. I could persuade her it's going to
rain little dogs tomorrow and she'd say, 'Yes, ma'am.' She has the
most trusting heart."
- Margaret Smith, Spears family friend
"Sometimes Britney will say something and it reminds me exactly of
Lynne when she was that age. Even the way she says it! They're
just two of a kind."
- Sandra Covington, aunt
"Lynne thinks ice cream can fix anything. You're depressed, you're
mad, you're stressed out - well, you just go buy yourself a nice big
ol' pint and you'll feel better in no time! Well, you know what? It
worked every time for Britney, and I
"Britney has inspired a whole town - not just little girls but grown-
ups, too - to follow their dreams. They say 'If she can do it, so can I'.
She's made such a contribution, there's talk of putting up a sign in
Kentwood: Home of Britney Spears."

gets both the single and album on the leading U.S. chart (Billboard)
as number one simultaneously.

Britney Jean Spears was born on 2nd December 1981, in the quiet
town of Kentwood, Louisiana, in New Orleans, America, to parents
Jamie and Lynne. Before Britney could walk, she was singing her
heart out, and her parents knew they had a star on their hands. Her
mum Lynne says, "Sometimes her constant singing could be
annoying, and she needed somewhere to let out all her positive
energy". She was always singing - she sung 'What Child is this,' a
Christian song, at her Kindergarten Graduation, and sang endless
hymns in front of the congregation at Kentwood Baptist Church, of
which she remains a member. Her older brother Bryan, can tell you
all about Britney's other singing career - singing into her hairbrush
to Madonna in her room! Today her little sister, Jamie Lynne does
the same, but to her big sister's songs!
Britney won lots of awards for her singing, and she says that
she got "bored of local talent shows, and wanted to do something
bigger and better". In Atlanta, there were auditions for 'The Mickey
Mouse Club', a 50's show being given a revival. Britney begged her
mother to take her, because it was unheard of to the residents of
Kentwood that you would go all the way to Atlanta for anything! In
the end her mother took her, but she was rejected, because she
was considered too young at 8 years old. But she had talent, so the
producer recommended her to a New York agent. Britney took 3
summers off from then to study dance, music and performing arts in
Manhattan and was doing plenty of commercials. It was during this
time she played an evil, murderous child in the off-Broadway play
'Ruthless' in 1991. She was 10 years old and had achieved a lot.
People back home were saying stuff like 'Shouldn't she be in
School?'. In 1992, she won an American TV talent show called 'Star
Search'. She wore a big fluffy dress and a big bow in her hair.
Aged 11, she was considered old enough to become a
Mouseketeer. She was the youngest there, and it was on the show
that she met Christina Aguilera, JC Chasez, Justin Timberland
(both of 'N Sync), and Keri Russell (star of the US TV programmed
'Felicity'). She spent two years there and then the show was axed.
She then went home and spent a year doing normal teenage stuff
at high school. She, again, became restless. There were auditions
for a girl group called Innocence, but Britney refused, as she
wanted to be a solo artist. Larry Rudolph, her New York Agent told
her about the change in the music industry - pop was coming back
(with 'NSync, Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, etc.) and there was not
a single, young female doing it on her own. She sang 'I Have
Nothing' the Whitney Houston classic and was signed to Jive
Records. She went to Sweden to record with pop music guru Max
Martin.

Aged 15, she had a record deal, aged 16, a number one album,
and single at the same time, breaking world records in the US
Billboard charts! Her debut album has now reached platinum
success in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Sweden, France, Japan,
Taiwan, France, and many other European countries. In the UK, the
single ("...Baby One More Time") picked up the fourth highest
selling single in one week ever. She is the youngest person to have
sold over a million copies of a debut single in the UK, She is the first
and youngest star to simultaneously have a number one album and
single in the US - the single broke US world records for climbing to
#1 in 5 weeks, the video was the most requested video ever on
MTV TRL and The Box, Jive Records UK had to print more copies
of the single to keep up with demand, the album sold 124,000
copies on its first day in the UK, 1000 more than the #1 of last week
sold in 6 days!

In the US, there are many items with Brit's face on it - T-Shirts,
Mugs, Jumpers, Trousers, and Calendars, even dolls! - There are
so many Britney items! The latest addition to this is the Bubble-Gum
CD Player, which is currently selling out in the US! A book has also
been written - "Heart to Heart". It has been written by Britney and

new pictures. They have also written their first novel "A Mother's
Gift." The internet is also taking advantage of Britney's success -

Britney even has her own charity - The Britney Spears Foundation.

The Pops", "Bravo", "Popcorn", "FHM" and "Rolling Stone" - you

                     is faced with scrutiny,

BRITNEY SPEARS INTERVIEW
Dear Diary…

Don't be the last to know. Britney confides in world pop
everything about her relationship with her family, how much
she loves Shania Twain and exactly what makes this pop
princess so special. We're sure Justin wouldn't mind adding a
comment or two …
Inner emotions - It's a family thing
world pop: Since you co-wrote Dear Diary for
Oops..., will you share a
story from your own diary
with us?
Britney: Oh, goodness! Actually those words written for the song
weren't words that I've written in my diary. I have experienced
situations like that when I was at school and I liked this guy but I
didn't know
what to say to him. I think every girl probably has experienced that.
World pop: How much of a role do your parents play in your
career?
Britney: If anything, I pushed my parents to do this! When I was
younger I would go to New York and my mom (Lynne) was
pregnant at the time and she didn't want me to go. I'm so thankful
that they supported and believed in me. Most parents would be like,
'No, we're staying home.' My mom was always like, 'Baby,
whenever you want to come home, we're going home.' She missed
my dad and my family but I was like, 'No, I want to stay. Please!'
world pop: Your mom is involved in your website, isn't she?
Britney: She's a teacher and the people asked her if she'd mind
writing something.
I think it's like one of the most read things on the Internet! She says
it's very therapeutic for her.
But it's so important that she stays my mom - that she's not a stage
mom. I do my business and when I come home I can just be me
and my mum can cook for me. I wouldn't like it if she was too
involved.
World pop: Is your little sister Jamie Lynn anything like you?
Britney: She is crazy! When I was little, I was really determined but
I was still kind of shy and I kept to myself. She'll tell you flat out that
she is the biggest star there is! I asked her to be in my performance
for the Grammy's, to be the little girl at the very beginning that's
dreaming about being me and she said, 'You know, if I do that, the
next day all these producers will be calling me! I'm just not ready to
deal with that!'
Religion and midriff flashing - Britney on beliefs and looks
world pop: Aren't you contradicting your Christian
