History Of Gwalior City

Gwalior ,one of the finest tourist destinations ,is located in Madhya
Pradesh. This city is known for its palaces and forts. It is a perfect
blend of the orientations of the old world combined with the occidentals
of the modern day.

The history of Gwalior is that of a great king, who by misfortune
suffered a deadly disease called Leprosy. In olden ages, this disease was
seldom known and hence the king was bound to lose his life. The king was
so depressed and at this juncture a sage arrived to the kingdom named
Gwalipa, who cured the king of his disease and even changed his name. The
king was impressed by the sage and he decided to rename this place as
Gwalior.

The best time to visit this place is in the months of October to March.
The summers are a bit hot. The Gwalior Fort, Suraj Kund, Sas Bahu
Temples, Jas Vilas Palace, Man Singh Palace and the State Archeological
Museum are some of the important tourist spots in Gwalior. The people are
as tough and persistent as the arid terrains of Gwalior.

Another interesting fact about Gwalior is the Tansen music festival,
celebrated annually in the months of November and December. The festival
is a major cultural event comprising of performances from eminent dancers
and musicians. Gwalior has a pleasant climate from the months of October
to March. The tomb of Mohammad Ghaus, a saint of the Islamic faith dating
back to the 16th century is also located here. The local people are quite
gritty and resilient in nature, but they are friendly too. If you want a
date with history, you can have an exciting time at this place.

The Gwalior airport is located at about 8 km from the main city and is
well connected with flights to major cities in India. The railway station
is located in the city itself with trains plying from all major stations.
The road network is also well connected to major cities in and around
Madhya Pradesh. The hotels in Gwalior are well built and are replete with
modern day amenities. So you can shy away your apprehensions and start
packing to this historical destination in India for a relaxing vacation.

Gwalior Fort is one of the oldest forts present in the country. A postal
stamp has also been issued by the Indian Postal Service in the honor of
this fort. It was built way back in late 8th century. The fort also gives
a whole view of the east of Gwalior. The fort is built over an area of
3km. The fort is 3km high and is build by sandstone rocks. The Elephant
gate is also known as Haithi Pul which is also the main entrance of the
fort. The town has two more forts like this namely Gujari fort and Man
Mandir Palace.

Gwalior's Airport serves the city of Gwalior. Various flights operate
from different parts of the country. This airport is located in the north
eastern part of the city. This airport is equipped with latest facilities
and hence it is one of the advance and modern airports of India. Gwalior
is well connected by train services to all parts of the country. Express
trains operate from various parts of the country to this city. You can
find train to Gwalior from almost every major city of India.Gwalior is
well connected by state and national highways. The Golden Quadrilateral
is expected to pass through this city. In an all, Gwalior is a nice place
to enjoy a holiday trip if you are fond of old traditional forts and
