OASIS EMPOWERMENT CENTER
April 20, 2012
Dear Friends
By August 1, Oasis Empowerment Center needs to raise $100,000.00. We have scheduled our annual
Oasis fundraiser for August 3-4-5. This year we have established our theme as Dare to Dream. We
recently rented a ministry center near the government center on the Island of Guam and have begun
extensive renovations to support our rather unique missional strategies. The Oasis is a recovery
counseling center for women overcoming life-controlling and life-limiting problems. We provide a wide
array of supportive services and recovery counseling to help women find healing and grow in wholeness.
To address poverty we are starting a micro-enterprise incubator called the Dream Center to provide a
practical dimension because real recovery will create jobs and lead to earning a living wage. Alongside
this, Imagination Island will be a place to nurture children through creative play. We are opening
Hidden Treasures Thrift Shop on Friday this week.
Guam is home to a population of nearly 150,000 Pacific Islanders, a majority of whom are struggling to
survive in poverty, plus about 19,000 military and contract workers. While Guam is a US Territory, it has
limited status and representation in the US Government, and sadly has the highest rates of teen-age
pregnancy, and a staggering 3 times as many rapes as anywhere else in the USA. 25% of the population
here are officially disabled, nearly 43,000 are unemployed.
The ministry we do is more than compassionate care, we are changing lives and impacting this island in
significant ways. The economy is a challenge to all of us and bringing many to their knees in prayer. That
is where you will find us too. We are asking for you to join us by investing in changed lives here at Oasis.
Our clients do not have insurance and are unable to pay for the counseling we provide. The Guam
government is also in a financial crisis and has not been able to quickly pay for the essential services we
provide to women and the disabled.
We have set up an on-line giving portal to facilitate international donations and to accommodate those
who can benefit from a tax-deductible receipt. Copy and paste this url into your browser to donate:

Or you can simply write a check and make a note in the memo if you want your donation to help a certain
individual or if a particular friend asked you to help. Then we can thank them as well.
Thank you for your investment in changed lives. We really appreciate your support!
