     Heterogeneous

     Particle

     Example – sand and water or muddy water
Colloids
   Heterogeneous mixtures containing particles that
    are intermediate in size between suspensions and
    solutions
             size 1nm – 100nm
     Particle

     Cloudy or milky in appearance

     Examples: gelatin, smoke or whipped cream
   Colloids demonstrate the Tyndall Effect – scattering
    of light in all directions
   Emulsions – colloidal dispersions of liquids in liquids
     Will   cause a polar and nonpolar substances to mix
