WELCOME TO SUFFOLK and DOGS IN NEED
Yes, it’s your favourite week's Show, and it's packed again with all the goodies you expect, including the
Genesis & Dogs in Need Agility Society Classic Tournaments.
.SHOWERS & LOOS positioned throughout the site BAR FACILITIES - in our night-club Whispers
W.I. PRODUCE STALL - will be visiting the site. FREE ENTERTAINMENT - for DiN Competitors and Campers only.

This schedule provides all the information you need to make the most of your week’s holiday with your dogs. It also includes all the
rules and guidelines covering the week, so to make the most of a good time we suggest you read through it.

Dogs in Need was originally created as a holiday with your dogs. Despite the massive increase in size, we still try to retain the holiday
atmosphere, with the added buzz of competition and that ‘feel-good’ feeling that our enjoyment is helping many small dog charities.
Every year, many thousands are distributed because of YOUR generosity, so enjoy yourself – you deserve it! To get a really warm
glow, read the thanks and testimonials on display in the information centre. With your help and support, Dogs in Need has shown these
hard-working people that they ARE noticed and appreciated, and hopefully we’ve helped them to carry on when the going’s got tough.
Success can also bring a down-side though. DINAS is now VAT registered, with the wicked taxman taking his share of the profits
first. If you are registered for VAT & require a VAT receipt, please include a sae with your entry form – we can’t cope with
remembering to put it in with your ring cards! If you wish to donate your VAT back to DINAS, we will be more than happy to receive
it in the Secretary’s office at the Show.
This year we are pleased to welcome the YKC, who are putting on some special classes and events for our Junior handlers. Full details
can be found on Page 8. To enter you must be a member of the YKC, so there’s no better reason for joining if you haven’t already.
The YKC is also promoting its services and events at our Show with their own stand. YKC staff will be on hand to answer questions
and take forms and inquiries back to the Office
The whole show can only run because of the many helpers who volunteer their services. Once again, last year the response was superb
- can we do the same again this year? Will you volunteer? Please complete the Helpers Form if you are willing to help. YOU DON'T
HAVE TO CAMP, OR EVEN RUN A DOG, TO HELP - THE MORE THE MERRIER (AND EASIER!). It's a great way to meet
new people and make new friends. The more helpers, the less for each one to do and the more we can all have a holiday. And please
help the helpers - the boot may be on your foot the next day! Don’t worry if you’ve never helped on a ring before – now’s the perfect
time to have a go. Start gently with putting up poles, and you’ll soon be running pads like a pro.
Every year we have our usual band of ‘resident’ helpers – the friendly ‘cycle psychos’ who escort you to your camping spot, the Ring
Managers who ensure your runs go as smoothly as possible (sorry – they can’t guarantee clear rounds though), and the ‘food fanatics’
who keep all you helpers well fed and watered during the day. There’s also the ones you don’t see who work hard at preparing the
showground while you’re all leisurely packing your holiday gear - and clearing up again afterward as you all head off back along the
A14. A lot of people put in a huge amount of effort, so if you spot anyone dozing quietly in an odd corner at the end of the week then
just treat them like a roundabout and step round them – they’ve probably earnt it!
Unfortunately we must still mention the boring bits, but if we do it here then we don’t need to do it over the PA! If you’ve got DOGS
or CHILDREN then this bit’s for you – which means it’s for everybody. PLEASE CLEAR UP after your dogs and place in the bins
provided. If you knowingly don't, we will tell you to leave - it’s as simple as that. So BAG IT & BIN IT!! Please don’t bring training
equipment with you because we will not let you use it and you’ll have carted all that weight around with you for nothing. Much better
to use the space for another couple of bottles. If you have children with you then they are your responsibility, and are assumed to be
under your supervision at all times. Which means you always know where they are and what they are doing. And if what they are
doing is anti-social they we may ask you to leave. Parents, please advise your children on safety measures on site, with particular
emphasis on road safety and bikes. Remember the 5mph speed limit doesn’t just refer to 4 wheels but 2 wheels as well. (and 2 legs if
you’re Linford Christie)
And of course - THE RULES - you do of course read them avidly on every schedule you receive, but could we ask you to read Rules
23 onwards again, just to make sure. These are particularly pertinent to the Dogs in Need show. All of the pages in this schedule relate
to Rules and Regulations and must be adhered to. So this is a rule to read the Rules!
                                                              --ooOoo—
This year’s entertainment is continuing our trip back to the past, so dig out the old glad-rags and prepare to make a spectacle of
yourself at the Discos. Shiny white satin jumpsuits will cover you for two nights – the girls can dress up as well – but for Friday we
want you in your old school uniforms. A bit pants for those of you who are glad to ditch them for a few weeks, but it gives you the
chance to wear them as you would like to wear them the rest of the year. It will be worth it – there’s prizes for the best costumes. Full
details of facilities and entertainment will be included with your Welcome Pack, but for a quick browse the proposed entertainment is:

MONDAY - GENERAL DISCO TUESDAY - BINGO & ROCK & ROLL DISCO
WEDNESDAY – CLASSIC ROCK COVERS BAND THURSDAY - NIGHT OFF make your own entertainment (quietly!)
FRIDAY - QUIZ & BACK TO SCHOOL DISCO SATURDAY – BLUES BROTHERS TRIBUTE BAND

We wish everyone a week of good weather, good agility and lots of laughs. Have fun, and good luck in your classes.

                                                                   2
WANT TO JOIN US? Then walk this way……
(If I could walk that way, etc….!)
WHAT CAN I ENTER? The classes are listed in the Schedule split by size, then by Classification and Day. Therefore you only need
to look at the list for your dog's size, and then follow the classification column downwards to see which classes are available to you
during the week. The entry forms follow the same standard, which means you should only complete ONE column to ensure you are
entering classes for which you may be eligible (except Pairs, which must be entered on a different form). However, read on!

WHAT CAN'T I ENTER? I must admit this is a bit trickier, so read carefully. If in doubt, ask us – we don’t bite and we want you to
get the most out of your week, but because of the size of the show we unfortunately have to put some restrictions on your entries.
We’ll start with the trickiest first…..
Juniors entering a junior class may not enter any non-Junior individual classes on the same day (although you may enter any pairs
class). Juniors may enter the YKC class on the Saturday and still enter non-Junior classes on that day; however they must be a member
of the YKC to enter the YKC class. If you run someone else’s dog then make sure what they enter doesn’t stop you entering what you
want to enter (see below – Dogs). So if Mum wants to compete in the Novice Classic Agility class on Tuesday with her dog then you
can’t borrow it to run in the Junior Classic Agility class on the same day – the dog can only do one or the other. Just remember the
sacrifices she makes for you the rest of the year. The same applies if big sister wants to run a dog in a Junior class, the same dog can’t
compete again in the same class but in a different age category. This ones a bit trickier to justify. You could try arm-wrestling to
decide who gets the dog to run but you would probably lose. Console yourself that she’ll get old and wrinkly before you do. If the
dog’s owner is judging on that day then no probs because no-one gets to run it .Sometimes life’s like that. What is a Junior? That’s the
trickiest of all! Have a look at Rule 23 and go on from there.
Dogs are restricted in what they can enter, and these restrictions are shown both on the list of classes available and on the entry forms.
Changing the handler doesn’t alter the fact that the same dog is running. Using separate entry forms doesn’t slip it past us either. A dog
may only be eligible for one Classic Final, although they may enter a mixture of Classic heats within the restrictions imposed i.e.
ONE agility Classic class and ONE jumping or gamblers Classic class per day within their category. So if Mum (above) relented a
little and on the Tuesday let junior run the Junior Jumping Classic heat and she still ran the Novice Agility Classic heat the dog could
only gain points for ONE Classic Tournament. Make sure you let us know which one on the entry form. Full Classic rules can be
found on page 5.

WHAT ARE THESE STRANGE CLASSES? They add a little levity to the serious stuff of classic qualifiers, and hopefully remind
you you’re really on holiday when you’ve just ‘e’d yourself in one of your Classic heats.
Graduate Pairs comes between Starters and Seniors in eligibility. Basically, it’s the same as Novice but excludes Starters, as they
already have their own Pairs class. If you have a dog that you can run in Novice classes but isn’t eligible to run in Starter classes then
you can enter this. Intermediate without all those nasty Senior and Advanced dogs snapping up the trophies.
Helping Hands is for non-competing helpers at the Show, and handlers may only enter that class and nothing else. Hopefully
everyone will help, so everyone is technically a Helping Hand. However, most of us do it because we run dogs and want shows to run
them at. The Helping Hands class is for those stalwarts who help at shows without getting anything out of it. Except the smug
satisfaction of being able to tell us where we went wrong without having to prove they could do any better. So lend them a dog
(they’re allowed to run 2, any size) - now’s your chance to get your own back. Heaven help you if they win it.
Brace is for people with big lungs and possibly in need of a lobotomy (purely a personal view from a smoker). One handler competes
over a standard jumping course with two dogs (no, one after the other unless you’ve chosen the wrong ‘holder’ for the box). You are
allowed a holder in the box for your second dog, and for the first one when it returns (if they can catch it). You are not allowed
oxygen on the course. We will endeavour to provide both male and female paramedics, but cannot guarantee either supply or ‘oooh’
appeal. Please state your preference should mouth-to-mouth be required – or at least who you definitely don’t want..
Benny Hill & Hill’s Angels Fancy Dress Pairs Jumping is the last of the strange classes, and they don’t come much stranger. Just
ordinary pairs jumping classes really, BUT you must both dress up if you want to compete, and Best Costumes win a prize. Anything
suitable to the theme – Benny Hill or (hint! hint!) one of Hill’s Angels. Judge's decision on whether you really are in fancy dress is
final. These classes are limited to 200 pairs over the three height classifications. That gives the judge time to draw breath in between
laughter bouts, and onlookers to get a really good look at some of the naughtier costumes .If these classes are oversubscribed entries
will be rejected on a pro rata basis and fees refunded if required (see further on under FINALLY). Ladies, a little tip – you stand more
chance of a prize as a Hill’s Angel then dressed up in a beret with glasses and a long brown overcoat. But you knew that anyway.

WHAT DO I GET IF I’M BRILLIANT? Apart from the admiration of us lesser mortals, we will be awarding Prizes and Place
Rosettes in all classes, and Clear Round Rosettes in all standard classes (please see Rule 39). Clear round rosettes must be collected at
the ring as soon as you have got the necessary clear round. Genesis will also be awarding special Genesis Agility Winner Car
Stickers in all non-special classes, and prizes will be awarded for Best Costumes in the Fancy Dress.
In the GENESIS & DINAS CLASSICS you can win:
Daily Heats 1st – 3rd: Special Prizes Rosettes 10% minimum in all classes
                  Finals: 1st - 3rd: Trophy Rosettes: 1st - 5th + Finalists Rosettes
And the really clever clogs get the chance to compete in:

                                                     THE WEEK’S FINALS:
Thursday: The DINAS Classic Finals - Minis and Juniors Judge: Alan Bray
Sunday: The GENESIS Classic Finals - Midis and Standards Judge: Roger Griffin
Full details and Rules for the Classic Tournaments can be found on Page 5

                                                                      3
                                                         HOW DO I ENTER?
Despite the rumours, it's not as bad as it looks! Take my hand and follow me.....
You will need: 1 Header Form 1 entry form PER COMPETING DOG (regardless of handler)
1 Camping and Helpers Form Pairs entry form (if applicable)
1). Complete the individual entry forms - ONE for EVERY competing dog, regardless of how many handlers for that dog. That makes
it easier for us to check your classes. Enter the dog's details at the top, and state which Classic Final (if any) you wish to compete for.
You may enter heats for more than one classic, within the restrictions detailed, but you will only gain points for your nominated
classic. Enter the MAIN handler’s name, then follow the column down for your dog's classification and circle the number(s) against
the classes you want your dog to enter. All your circles should be in the same column. If there is a change of handler for a class then
enter the new handler's name to the right of the circled class number, in the space provided. Remember only the MAIN Handler can
gain points towards a Classic Final, and this name cannot be changed after Monday 16th August 2004. PLEASE read the
Classic rules on Page 4 carefully. Pairs entries must be made on the Pairs Form. If your dog is only entering a pairs class then you will
still need to complete an individual entry form so that we can issue a ring number, but write across it ‘PAIRS ONLY’.
2). Complete a Pairs Entry form, if applicable. Check - has your partner entered the same pair? (We like people who pay twice!) Does
your partner know they are in a pair?! Have you entered a partner? - sorry but we are unable to find partners for you.
3). Complete a Camping Form, if applicable. Remember to tell us who you want to camp with and remember to tell the rest of your
camping group to use the same name. If John Brown says he wants to camp with Joe Bloggs, and Joe Bloggs says he wants to camp
with John Brown they will probably both end up very lonely. TICK if you want electric hook-up, a cross looks as though you don’t.
Remember, it is your responsibility to provide a cable that is long enough to plug into the supply (minimum 25 mtrs). IT WILL
REQUIRE A STANDARD 13AMP - 3 PIN PLUG ON THE END. Electric hook-up can only be supplied if pre-paid, and is 240v
supply only. All entries, camping & electric must be made on the appropriate official entry forms and paid in full by close of entries
(see Rule 41). Please Note: Camping pitches are approximately 9m x 6m. If your unit plus any ATTACHED awning is over 9m in
length remember to specify the length on the Camping Form in the box provided. If you pitch any other unit within your pitch area (eg
tent, etc) there must be a minimum 3m gap left between units. These are fire regulations and MUST BE ADHERED TO. Any units
not complying will be asked to move, so for your own sake please ensure you book enough pitches to accommodate your set-up. We
cannot guarantee where any overflow camping will be sited. Camping numbers may have to be limited - first come first served, so get
shifting! Rules 32, 38 and 42 also particularly apply, so to avoid any confusion here they are again:
          32. For the safety of dogs/people it is the responsibility of those using electric hook-ups and/or generators to provide
adequate protection for cables and their own lead . People camping in groups who require electric will be sited nearest to the
          electric supply points.
          38. No camping units allowed on the Show ground before 9.00am Monday 16th August 2004. Early show helpers will be sent
passes and must book in on arrival. NO PASS – NO EARLY ENTRY. Camping numbers may be limited at the Committee's
discretion. The Show ground will be locked from 24.00hrs - 7.00 hrs each night.
          42. All camping roadways on site must be kept clear at all times. The erection of training equipment is forbidden. There will
be a designated area for day parking which must be used. Please adhere to this rule.
4). Please complete the HELPERS FORM. Each year we need more than 500 'people days' in help. That's one day for 1 in 3 of you,
half a day for 2 out of 3, but just a couple of hours if you would all help. If you can supply a complete ring party (12 -14 people) then
please state 'RING PARTY' on the form and list their names so we can camp you all together. We endeavour to provide preferential
camping for helpers, so persuade your friends to join you.
5). Complete a Header Form to cover all your entries. List your NFC dogs - remember they must be minimum 4 months old and
registered with the Kennel Club. Puppies under 4 months are not permitted anywhere on the Show ground. All dogs attending the show
must be entered on the relevant form, otherwise they will have to spend the week outside the perimeter fence watching the rest of us
enjoying ourselves. Please write your return address clearly so that we may get your envelope correct.
6). Collect all the forms together with the Header form on top and paperclip them together with the loot. DO NOT SEND A S.A.E. -
add 35p to your entry fees (85p for overseas) and we will do the rest. And PLEASE don’t use staples – our fingers just won’t take it
So easy peasy, but just in case ... FINAL FINAL CHECK!!!
JUNIORS - are you eligible? Check the junior classifications carefully – Saturday’s junior may be Tuesday’s adult.
PAIRS - if somebody enters your dog in a pair and there is no individual entry form for that dog, or you have entered him NFC, then he will be
deemed NOT TO HAVE ENTERED and we cannot subsequently put him in a pair. Remember, we are unable to accept half pairs.
Finally, please make sure you list all your NFC dogs you're bringing for a holiday - we'd hate to send them away with a stick attached to a tied spotty
bag over their shoulder! Your NFC dogs should be listed on the Header Form and the declaration signed for them.

                                                   AND IF IT'S STILL WRONG?....
Because of the volume of entries, we may make the following assumptions concerning incorrect entries:
INCORRECT FEES: under payment and we will chase you for the loot! Over payment, and thank you very much for your generous contribution.
(well, it is for charity!)
INCORRECT CLASS ENTRIES: for dogs entered in more than the allowed classes, we will adopt the following priority: Junior, starting with the
oldest age category and going down to the youngest, Starter, Novice, Advanced and Senior. For handlers entered in Junior and non-Junior classes
(except Pairs and YKC) on the same day you will forfeit your non-Junior entry.
If your entry is sent in early enough when we're still in bouncy mood, we'll ring you first to check, but as closing date approaches - beware!
FINALLY.....
If the Fancy Dress Pairs classes are oversubscribed (they are limited to 200 pairs overall) we will refund your entry fee (unless, of course, you're
feeling very generous........)
Please Note: This page provides further details to the Rules and Regulations as defined on pages 9, 10 and 11, and should be read in conjunction
with those Rules and Regulations.

                                                                          4
                                         THE GENESIS & DINAS CLASSICS
                                               PLEASE READ THE RULES CAREFULLY!

The GENESIS & DINAS Classics will be in eight KC classified sections: Starter, Novice, Senior, Advanced, Mini Novice, Mini
Senior, Midi and Junior (over/under 12). Each Classic will have four qualifying classes for which points may be gained to qualify
towards the Final. The Senior and Advanced Classics will have two Agility classes, one Jumping class and a Gamblers class. All other
Classics will consist of two Agility and two Jumping classes. Dogs may enter a maximum of four Classic classes, within the relevant
Either/Or restrictions, but may only qualify for the Final nominated on the entry form. If no Final has been nominated, and it is not
clear which Final applies, then the Final may be assumed by us based on the priorities listed on page 4 under Incorrect Class Entries.
SCORING: Points will be awarded according to any place achieved in each class of the nominated or assumed Classic, as per the
official prize-giving for that class. Points will also be awarded for unplaced clear rounds (Gamblers excepted). 1st place will receive
50 points, 2nd place 49 points, etc. down to the last place awarded. Unplaced clear rounds will receive 10 points. Points will only be
awarded where the dog is handled by the main handler nominated on the entry form, and only the main handler will be allowed
to run in the Final. Any amendment to the main handler must be notified to Agility Aid IN WRITING prior to Tuesday August 17th
2004, and that amendment will then stand for the duration of the competition. It is the responsibility of the new handler to ensure that
the scribe sheets record the alteration prior to running. The dog/handler achieving the highest number of points in each Classic will be
invited to take part in the Finals on Thursday 19th or Sunday 22nd August 2004. In the event of a tie, the scores in the first Agility
class will decide the winner. If there is still a tie, the scores in the second Agility class will apply., followed by the first Jumping class,
then the second Jumping class or Gamblers class, as applicable. A list of Finalists and Reserves will be displayed at the Show the
evening of the last Classic heats for that Classic. Finalists & Reserves MUST book in the morning of the Classic at Ring 1's score tent.
Reserves for the Final may be called at that time if available. The first 2 reserves, if not called to compete in the Final, will be invited
to run as white dogs for that Final and will receive a commemorative rosette. Full details will be supplied at the Show.

A Little Guidance (based on experience!)………
The Classic classes are restricted; remember, your dog may only enter 1 Agility and 1 Jumping or Gamblers classic class in any one day, regardless
of who is the handler. If you enter Classic classes from different classics (for instance, Novice Agility and Junior Jumping) then PLEASE tell us
which classic you want to collect points for. If not, then we shall nominate a classic as defined on page 4 under Incorrect Class Entries. Changing the
handler of the dog will not change these restrictions!
If you are a Junior, then please make sure you read the bit about Juniors on pages 3 and 8 . If you are entering a Junior class then we need to know
what size your dog is. If you are borrowing a dog, then do check that the owner isn’t judging that day – you won’t be allowed to run their dog. And

                                                                          6

if your parent is completing the entry form for you then make sure they are aware of how much you’re growing up and get your age classification
right – some adults don’t admit to the passing of time!
If the restrictions column states that your dog may enter EITHER this class OR this class, then it means that your dog cannot enter both those
classes. Yes, we know………. but you’d be surprised how these forms get completed in the final rush!
If your dog is entered in the Helping Hands class, then you MUST tell us who the handler is – and they mustn’t run a dog in any other class during
the week. This class is for those noble helpers who do the work without running a dog. If it was just for anyone who helps then it would have about
1400 dogs in it! (We hope!).
