     Multivariate logistic regression analysis assessed the impact on critical illness polyneuropathy of
     the different metabolic and anti-inflammatory effects of intensive insulin therapy and all the
     known risk factors. From this analysis, it appeared that blood glucose control, rather than the
     insulin dose or the beneficial effect on lipids or inflammation, statistically explained the reduced
     incidence of critical illness polyneuropathy with the intervention.
