YOUR BENEFITS AT SERENA SOFTWARE
Serena Software is pleased to offer its employees a comprehensive benefits program that provides choice and
flexibility. This brief summary outlines the benefit options available as of January 1, 2012. You may elect
coverage for yourself only or for you and your eligible dependents.
Benefits become effective on the first of the month coinciding with or next following your date of hire. For detailed
information about the plans listed below, please go to https://www.benefitstream.net/serena. The log-in is

carrier websites and payroll deduction information. For additional information refer to the Summary Plan
Descriptions for each plan, which are available from the Human Resources Department. These benefits are
reviewed periodically and are subject to change at any time.
The Serena U.S. Benefits program offers a variety of health plans so you can elect the coverage that works best
for you. Your medical plan options include three CIGNA Open Access Plus (OAP) plans (Cigna OAP 250
deductible Plan, Cigna OAP 500 deductible Plan or Cigna OAP 1500 deductible Plan). For employees in

AETNA DENTAL PPO
Our dental plan covers a range of dental treatments and services. With the Aetna Dental PPO plan, you have the
freedom to choose your own dentist. You will have lower out of pocket costs if you choose to see an Aetna

VISION SERVICE PLAN (VSP)
You may enroll in vision coverage through Vision Service Plan (VSP). VSP has an extensive nationwide network
of doctors who provide quality vision services and materials. This plan is designed to provide for regular eye
exams and benefits toward vision care expenses including glasses or contact lenses. Under this plan, you can
use a VSP provider or another provider of your choice. However, when you obtain vision care through a non-VSP
provider, you will receive a reduced level of benefits. Visit https://www.benefitstream.net/Serena/benefits/vision to

BASIC LIFE INSURANCE
Serena provides Basic Life insurance as an automatic employer paid benefit (equal to 2 times annual earnings up
to a maximum of $500,000) to all benefit eligible employees through CIGNA Group Insurance.
SUPPLEMENTAL LIFE INSURANCE
The Voluntary Life Insurance plan offers you a convenient opportunity to purchase affordable life insurance for
yourself, your spouse, and your children through CIGNA Group Insurance. Employees may choose from a
minimum of $10,000 to a maximum of $500,000 (in $10,000 increments) for themselves. Spouse coverage can
be purchased in increments of $5,000 not to exceed 50% of the employee amount. Children’s life insurance may
be purchased in $2,000 increments up to $10,000.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance provided by CIGNA Group Insurance gives you the
option of purchasing up to $500,000 of coverage in increments of $25,000. You may also purchase AD&D
coverage for your family. Each family member’s benefit is a percentage of the benefit amount you select. It will
depend on who your insured family members are at the time of a covered accidental loss.
SHORT TERM DISABILITY
Serena provides short term disability insurance as an automatic employer paid benefit through CIGNA Group
Insurance. This insurance coverage will supplement other sources of disability income to replace 66.67% of your
pre-disability earnings to a maximum weekly benefit of $2,500. Benefits will be paid for a maximum of 24 weeks.
LONG TERM DISABILITY
Serena provides a long term disability plan insured through CIGNA Group Insurance at no cost to employees.
The long term disability replaces up to 66.67% of monthly earnings to a maximum of $10,000 per month. Benefits
can begin after 180 days of disability, and are payable to until you reach your Social Security Normal Retirement
EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EAP)
Serena offers EAP and Work/Life Benefit Services through United Behavioral Health at no cost to employees.
The EAP is a confidential round-the-clock service (24 hours a day/365 days a year) that helps employees and
their families balance the demands of work, life and personal issues. The program offers support and resources
for your concerns around parenting issues, work-related situations, relationship problems, substance abuse, self-
improvement and more.
FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNTS (FSA)
Igoe Administrative Services administers the Serena Flexible Spending Accounts. These programs are voluntary
and allow eligible employees to make payroll contributions on a pre-tax basis to cover eligible medical and work-
related day care expenses. Eligible employees can contribute up to $5,000 (2012) to the Medical Care Spending
and/or Dependent Care Spending Accounts.
2012 EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTIONS FOR HEALTH, DENTAL AND VISION
Serena Software funds a majority of the total costs for your healthcare coverage. Employees participating in the
plans are required to contribute a portion of the cost through pre-tax payroll deductions. Below are the 2012 per
pay period employee contributions depending upon plan and coverage level. There are 24 pay periods per year.

401(K) RETIREMENT PLAN
Under the Serena Software, Inc. 401(k) Plan, you may defer up to 60% of your compensation up to the federal
annual contribution limit. The maximum IRS limit for 2012 is $17,000 for those up to age 49. Serena matches
30% of the first 6% of your contributions to the Plan. If you will be age 50 or older during the calendar year you
can contribute an additional Catch Up Contribution up to $5,500. The plan is administered by Mercer and offers
several investment options from which to select. You may elect to join the plan on any day, and investment

TIME OFF BENEFITS
Employees are granted 6 days of sick leave each January. The maximum accumulation of sick leave is 12 days.
Sick leave is used to cover the work time during an occasional illness or injury, or during the waiting period before
Short Term Disability (STD) benefits begin.
There are 9 company-paid holidays in 2012. A list of the holidays can be found on the Serena intranet.
Full-time employees receive 15 days of vacation per full year worked. In the first calendar year of employment,
vacation is pro-rated based on the number of months you work. On the January 1st after the 5th year anniversary
of employment, the employees receive 20 days of vacation per year. In most states, vacation is granted in
advance each January 1st, and is on a “use it or lose it” basis, with no vacation carry over from year to year. In
CA and IL, vacation is prorated by state law on an accrual basis, and some limited carryover is permitted. More
