It’s never too early to be gathering auction
items! When you begin Spring cleaning you may
find some gently used items that you don’t want,
but that someone else may. Wrap it up and bring
it in! Your CDs or MECs would be glad to take them
off your hands.
It doesn’t hurt to ask businesses you fre-

how many say yes!
His name was Fleming
His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer. One day, while trying to make a living for his family,
he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There, mired to his waist
in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what
could have been a slow and terrifying death.
The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman’s sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed noble-
man stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved. ‘I want to repay you,’
said the nobleman. ‘You saved my son’s life.’
‘No, I can’t accept payment for what I did,’ the Scottish farmer replied waving off the offer. At that moment, the
farmer’s own son came to the door of the family hovel.
‘Is that your son?’ the nobleman asked.
‘Yes,’ the farmer replied proudly.
‘I’ll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the level of education my own son will enjoy. If the lad is any-
thing like his father, he’ll no doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud of.’ And that he did. Farmer Fleming’s son
attended the very best schools and in time, graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London, and went
on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.
Years afterward, the same nobleman’s son who was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia.
What saved his life this time? Penicillin. The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill. His son’s name? Sir
Winston Churchill.

New Year’s Day Ride
An Afternoon with Chapter B friends
We started at our BP Station meeting place
in New Albany and ventured out, warm gear
layered on.
Our CDs, Jerry & Ruthie, led the way and
were followed by Jeannette, Tad & Ron, Jason,
Bob & Lora, and Bobby in his car.
The storm didn’t get us, and the vultures didn’t get us either.
Then the sun came out! Ed & Annette met us at our destination --
Cracker Barrel in Corydon.

Quilts
for Kids
Our first charity project for 2012 was very successful. Lead by Jeannette McAlesse,
several members acquired the 7 kits provided by Quilts for Kids, a non-profit organization.
Tad Bohnert, Ruthie Brown, Bobby Morrison, Jeannette McAleese, and Lora Morrison made at
least one quilt a piece. These kits included the fabric
and directions for a small quilt. Each member provided
their own batting and thread. Jeannette, Tad and
Ruthie made additional quilts from their own sup-
plies. With only a short turn-around-time, 11 quilts
were completed and brought to the February gather-
ing. Jeannette boxed them up and shipped them back
where they will be distributed to children in hospitals.
A little bit of comfort goes a long way in healing
a sick body. If you missed out on helping this time,
don’t despair. Those who participated felt it was a
very worthwhile cause and wish to do it again. Most
likely Jeannette will request more kits in the fall/winter
season.

Spring Wing Warm Up Thursday Evening
SUPPER RIDE
Last year at Spring Wing Warm Up we had something different for the members to enjoy by putting together
a supper ride on Thursday evening. We had around 90 individuals to participate in the ride and enjoy the
meal and we have had several say they would like to do it again this year so on Thursday evening May 17th
we will be doing another supper ride.
We will start lining up the bikes at 4:00 and will have a rider’s meeting and will be leaving the fairgrounds at
4:15 SHARP and make sure your bikes are fueled and ready as we will not be stopping before arriving at the
restaurant. We have planned a 75 mile scenic ride before stopping to eat and after eating it will be around
25 miles back to the fairgrounds.
We are looking forward to having another big group on the ride this year so come and join us for another
fun laid-back and relaxing evening ride enjoying some of the beautiful countryside here in the middle of
Indiana.
If you have any questions and would like to join us on this ride please contact us as we need to give the res-
taurant an approximate count on how many will be coming to eat.
