What if everybody did something?
Make the world a better place. The power of 1
simple thing every
day. We can collectively make a positive difference in our
community. Here are 101 ideas, start now.
Include a Pay It Forward note to keep the momentum…
1. Champion a drive for bone marrow registrations.
2. Champion a drive for signing organ donation cards.
3. Volunteer your time at an animal shelter. Help “Kit Cat Club” create
sanctuary shelter’s at Gage Park: call Gail 905 543 8092.
4. Champion finding homes for animals for local shelters, create a
documentary to help stimulate interest and exposure.
5. Talk to local business, Home Depot / Rona, to donate brooms, rakes,
shovels ect. and clean up a run down area in Hamilton or help the
disabled / elderly clean up their yards…leave the equipment for the
recipients to keep.
6. Talk to a local florist to donate flowers and hand out single flowers to
people on the street that need a cup of cheer.
7. Collect blankets / winter coats and distribute on a cold day, partner
up with the Hamilton Police to distribute at night.
8. Set up a free hot chocolate stand.
9. Buy someone a coffee.
10. Buy someone breakfast, lunch, a snack or dinner.
11. Adopt-a-grandma/grandpa in a local nursing home that has no family.
12. Help children with their homework.
13. Be a mentor; big brothers / big sisters.
14. Raise money to buy a wheelchair or other supplies for someone that
doesn’t have medical coverage.
15. Teach someone to play an instrument you excel at.
16. Read to a senior with visual impairments.
17. Read to a sick child at McMaster Children’s Hospital.
18. Read to a blind person. Volunteer at W. Ross Macdonald School for

19. Learn sign language.
20. Help out at a soup kitchen feeding the homeless.
21. Clean up our environment, don’t litter, pick up trash, teach people
how to recycle…
22. Learn about our Canadian soldiers and do a documentary to share
with our community on utube.
23. Honor a war vet, capture their personal story and create a memoir
for a family, contact Veterans Affairs Canada and a motorcycle
group, ‘North Wall Riders.
24. Put money in someone’s parking meter.
25. Greet some one with a genuine smile.
26. Give some one your seat on a bus / train, or even buy their ticket!
27. Recycle eye glasses for third world countries.
28. Let someone in line ahead of you at the grocery store, especially if
they have small children, are elderly or look unhappy…
29. Make birthday boxes for children at women’s shelters.
30. Be friendly to someone you would normally ignore or have treated
them with unkindness in the past.
31. Write a card to praise, uplift, thank or just let someone know they
matter.
32. Help someone with yard work, shovel, mow, weed.
33. Return someone’s shopping cart.
34. Organize a collection of non-perishable food for food banks.
35. Donate your air miles.
36. Pay for someone’s gas.
37. Help shovel someone’s driveway.
38. Tip 25% or more.
39. Pay for someone to have a massage or spa treatment.
40. Praise someone for doing a good job.
41. Drop off a care package anonymously.
42. Champion a concert to raise $$$ for a local charity; musicians,
comedians, poetry reading, open mic night.

for people who may need them.

57. Organize a giant yard sale, the $$$ raised will go to a local charity.
58. Bake cookies for someone.

60. Take a child to the park or pool.

62. If you see a piece of trash on the ground, pick it up.

72. If someone is tailgating you, let them pass and wish them well with a
smile and a wave.
73. Learn a new skill and teach it to someone else.
74. If you know someone really likes something, give it to them when
they least expect it.
75. If there’s been an accident or a potentially hazardous situation, dial
911. You could save a life.
76. Give blood.
77. Buy books for a shelter, or organize a book drive.
78. Slip a $20 bill anonymously to someone you know is having financial
difficulties.
79. Grow your hair out and donate to the Canadian Cancer Society;

80. Don’t smoke near others.
81. On a rainy day hand out umbrella’s or give yours to someone.
82. Make a list of birthdays of people you know. Surprise them with a
birthday card, email, text ect.
83. Be there for someone. Listen to their troubles.
84. Tape quarters to a pay phone or at a car wash
85. Encourage people.
86. Cut up plastic rings on six pack holders so animals don’t get caught
in them.
87. Recommend people to friends who might appreciate their services.
88. On a hot day, buy someone something cold to drink; on a cold day,
get them something warm to drink.
89. Go on a mission trip, gain perspective on how good you have it.
90. Champion a soap drive to collect unused soaps / shampoos from
hotel/motels and donate to a shelter.
91. Offer hugs to people.
92. Forgive a debt.
93. When you’re waiting for service at a deli counter, swap call numbers
with someone who is in a hurry.
94. If the person behind you only has a few items at the store, buy them
for him or her.
95. Support activists and people on strike.
96. Organize volunteers to make a bigger impact of difference.
97. Spend less time watching TV.
98. Leave an encouraging or positive note on a co-workers door/mailbox.
99. Champion a baby-sitting club for single mothers that don’t get out
much.
100. Organize a choir to sing at a shelter…music lifts the spirits!
101. Play, genuinely play, with each other and your kids; giving of
your time is the most precious gift you can give to others.
