 Instructions
1

Provide evidence that you have experience or education of bail bonds procedures. This can include
courses or work experience. Make sure you have a list of all your references ready. Work experience
with a Washington state bail bonds agent is preferable.

2

Provide knowledge of criminal and civil law. This may mean you will need to pass an exam or
interview. You may also be required to prove your knowledge of Washington state laws regarding bail
bonds and bail recovery, so review these as well (see Resources below).

3

Show proof of your identity and age. There is a minimum age requirement of 21 years old to be a
bounty hunter. You must also prove that you are a Washington state resident, so a valid Washington
license would be your best form of identification.

4

Demonstrate evidence that you have proper firearms training, and are knowledgeable about what
constitutes necessary force. This means you will need to provide a certificate of training, and possibly
even need to pass a firearms qualifying round.

5
Provide your firearms and concealed weapons permits and certificates to the court clerk and sheriff's
office. You will need to keep these up to date and on file with the court in order to avoid any
problems.

 6
You must show proof that you are under contract of a bail bonds agent in Washington. Freelance
bounty hunting is illegal in the state of Washington.

7

Network as much as possible and build a positive reputation in your field. Bail bond agents will look
more favorably on bounty hunters who have a solid professional reputation (see Resources below).
