How To Be A Bounty Hunter In Florida
A bounty hunter captures fugitives and others for a financial reward. Technically, there is no such
thing as a bounty hunter in the state of Florida, which is illegal to perform such an act. The men and
women who recover defendants from bail in the state of Florida are licensed bondsmen, also known
as "pickup guys" or "fugitive recovery agents. "

 Guidelines
1

Call the Florida Department of Financial Services at 850-413-3137, ext. 1101, to learn if you're
qualified to become licensed bail bondsman in Florida.

2

Go to the Florida Security Agents Association (see Resources) website to enroll in its 120-hour
course. The classes usually just take 2-3 weeks to perform. During this time period you'll receive
training from law enforcement and bail bond agent instructors. By 2011, the course fee was $150.

3

Enroll in the correspondence course at the University of Florida, the INS 3 --- Bail & Bail Bond
Insurance --- at 352-392-1711. By 2011, the fee for the course and course manual was $300. You
can just take levels one and two separately or at the same time, based on your preference.

4

Get yourself a Limited Surety Agent Temporary license from the Department of Financial Services
(see Resources). You must submit fingerprints, a criminal history report and pay any required
application fees to get your license. For more information, call the Agents and Agent Licensing
department at 850-413-3137, ext. 1101.

 5
Complete a one-year internship dealing with an authorized bail bondsman. You must devote at the
least 30 hours weekly for 52 weeks.

6
Pass a final examination at a Promissory Testing center. You can find centers located all over Florida.
Call for a testing appointment at 888-274-2020.
