                                    Dear Parents, Students and Staff,
Feast of the Triumph of the Cross

Cross Catholic School – The Feast of the Triumph of
the Cross. We try to implement the spirituality and
teaching of the Holy Cross into all aspects of our
School Hall Progress school life, from the way we learn to the way that we

15th Diocesan Athletics
established. Mary spent time at the South Kincumber Orphanage during her
15th Diocesan Public Speaking
Competition life which is part of the Holy Cross Parish. Many years ago Father Aliprandi

23rd Year 5 Excursion intercession for some land to become available to establish a new Catholic
23rd Austag Competition School. Within a few weeks he was contacted on behalf of someone wishing
24th Giant Cook Up to sell land quickly and cheaply, in fact it was the land where he had placed
the relic. Fr Aliprandi paid a $2 deposit and took possession of the land –

2nd Last Day of Term reflect on her spirituality and its implication to the lives of our students on
19th First Day of Term 4 Friday in this the 100th year anniversary of her death.

This year we will be celebrating the Feast of the Triumph of the Holy Cross
with a full day of learning and fun, with a particular focus on the life of
Mary MacKillop. In the morning learning block, from 9:20am the children
will rotate through groups led by the teachers that will deepen their
knowledge of Mary MacKillop’s life, including reflecting on some of her
Sally – Year 4B’s Class Pet
sayings and applying this spirituality to their own lives, making clay crosses
and writing a Mary MacKillop rap. Sister Eleanor from the St Joseph’s
Convent at South Kincumber will be coming to explain to the students the
process of Mary’s path to sainthood and the miracles that have been
attributed to her. Parents are welcome to join us for the last session with
Sister Eleanor in Holy Spirit Church from 10:40 – 11:00am.

After recess everyone is invited to join us for the celebration of Mass at
12pm in Holy Spirit Church. Hopefully you can then stay on and join us for

                           Mary MacKillop’s Foundational Beliefs
That the will of God was integral to her life’s journey

We must hold ourselves in readiness for God’s will, whichever way things go. (1867)

Mary MacKillop was deeply attentive to the movement of God in her life. In encouraging the Sisters to seek God’s
Will, she exhorts them to true discernment, which enabled them to determine the difference between their own
ambition and God’s will for them.

 Kinder Play Groups
In preparation for Kinder next year, our new Kindy enrolments
have been invited to meet at the school on Wednesday and
Thursday mornings for play dates. These dates are an attempt
to get the next year’s kindies together and meet and play so
that when they come to Holy Cross next year they will know
some familiar faces. It is also a great way for parents to meet
so that they too have a friendly face in the crowd next year.
The program will continue to run for the remainder of the term before the official Kinder
 Orientation Days next term.

Author Visit – Monday 14th September
As a special follow-up treat to Book Week we have an award
winning author visiting next Monday to speak to Years 3, 4, 5 & 6.
Christine Harris is a Book Week Author. Her book was in the
Younger Readers (novels) Section and was called Audrey of the
Outback. It is a great story which introduces children of today to a
part of Australian history where things were much simpler. The
wisdom of living in the outback during the 1930’s with a good dose of Aussie slang throughout the
story make it an exciting adventure to read. I encourage all children to visit her website at

                                              Mini Vinnies

Over the next few weeks the Mini Vinnies will be raising money for our sponsor child, Kirimi Gitonga. The
cost of our annual sponsorship for Kirimi is $460 which provides Kirimi and
his community with education, food, clean water, shelter and medicine.

Until the end of week 9, the Mini Vinnies will be selling ‘helping hands’ to the
students and families of Holy Cross. ‘Helping hands’ will be available to
purchase from class teachers for $1 each. Students are encouraged to purchase
‘helping hands’ which will then be displayed in the form of a rainbow in the St.
Joseph’s Centre. The rainbow reminds us of the compassion we show towards

Thank you for your continued support.

Interesting fact: Kirimi will turn 11 on the 29th November, 2009.

P & F Meeting tomorrow evening at 7:30pm all welcome to attend

Well the Fathers Day Stall was a huge success. We hope all the Dads and Grandads had a lovely
day on Sunday and enjoyed their wonderful gifts. A big thank you to all the wonderful women who
have helped out along the way with wrapping and on the day of the stall. There was a massive turn
out last Thursday and it is greatly appreciated. We raised $2,532.30 profit from the stall this year so
thank you to all families who have contributed in so many ways. A special thank you to Chris
Kelly who was a terrific help in guiding us rookies this year. The children really got behind the
green theme with their bags this year and we also had a number of bags donated by Mrs Starr and
the Pickett-Missingham family, so we rewarded all the children on the day with an ice block from
the canteen. Thanks also to Teena Kinney for once again supplying all the “Dads” teabags and to all
those wonderful mums who made Rocky Road for the kids to purchase on the day. Below is a list
of the lucky winners of the raffle prizes.
