MODULES/UNITS COURSEWORK DEADLINES / EXAMS WHEN
The pupils study OCR (Salters) Chemistry. Over the course of 2 years pupils study 4 GCSE/AS/A LEVEL DATE OF EXAMS
different modules and complete 2 pieces of coursework.
AS Chemistry UNIT 1: CHEMISTRY FOR LIFE JANUARY
Unit 1: Chemistry for Life. The pupils will cover two different topics; Elements of Life
and Developing Fuels. UNIT 2: CHEMISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES JUNE
Unit 2: Chemistry of Natural Resources. The pupils cover three different topics;
Elements from the Sea, Polymer Revolution and The Atmosphere. UNIT 3: PRACTICAL SKILLS ASSESSMENT APRIL
Unit 3: Practical Skills Assessment. Pupils will complete 4 different practical tasks

throughout the year. This tests their conduct and precision throughout experiments,
analysis of data and completion of calculations.
UNIT 5: CHEMISTRY BY DESIGN JUNE
A2 Chemistry UNIT 6: CHEMISTRY INDIVIDUAL INVESTIGATION APRIL
Unit 4: Chemistry of Materials. The pupils cover 4 topics; What’s in a Medicine,
Material Revolution, Thread of Life and Steel Story.
Unit 5: Chemistry by Design. Agriculture and Industry, Colour by Design, The Oceans
and Medicine by Design.
Unit 6: An Individual Investigation where pupils have to complete a minimum of 18
hours independent experimental work and produce an extensive written report
incorporating equations, graphs and calculations.
UNITS TERM Pupils are supplied with 2 textbooks for the course; Chemical Ideas and Chemical
Storylines. The pupils are also given data sheets and activity sheets. Pupils can also
